Doorbell Problems

Hi there,

I have a early (older) nest doorbell that has been working pretty much flawlessly since installed years ago.  We have it connected to the Nest App and through that to the Google Home App alongside other cameras, speakers, lights and such.

It has started having ringing problems inside the house for the past year or so.  At first it started with short rings instead of the full chime.  Recently it has been ringing short, not ringing or giving a full normal ring.

I've checked the App and all the settings still appear to be what I've seen here.  I just tried 6 presses in a row...  The first one gave no inside ring, the second a truncated ring, the third a full ring, and the fourth on gave no rings.  The doorbell itself chimed only on the first ring.

I checked the wiring at the powered chime and it all looks fine.  Nothing shorted no cut or bare wires.  When I open it up in the app I can see out the camera and I (always I think) get a notification on my phone when the doorbell is pressed.

Problem is working from home and I don't alway have my phone in my hand and have missed a couple important deliveries recently since I didn't hear the doorbell ring.

What to try next?  Thanks for the help!

@James8011

If you installed your "older" doorbell several years ago in the Google Nest app, then you must have the Google Nest Hello Doorbell, rather than the "Nest Doorbell (battery)" indicated in your post.

Perhaps the internal battery in your Nest Hello Doorbell is failing. It has now failed in all three of our Nest Hello Doorbells. The chief symptom is that, when the doorbell button is pressed, the doorbell goes offline and things don't work right for a doorbell press. Your symptoms are a little different, but perhaps it's the internal battery in your case as well.

Since the purpose of the internal battery is only to provide power to the doorbell during the instant when the doorbell button is pressed and power is diverted to ring the indoor doorbell chime, if you turn off the doorbell's "Indoor chime" option in the Google Nest app, the doorbell works fine, except that it no longer tries to ring the indoor doorbell chime. We've had the "Indoor chime" turned off on all three of our Nest Hello Doorbells, and we now rely instead on "Visitor announcements" on our Nest Hubs and Nest Mini (https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/7672451).

If you have any Nest Hubs or Nest Minis, you could try turning off the "Indoor chime" option for your doorbell and turning on "Visitor announcements" and see if that helps.  If that does NOT help, perhaps your doorbell is having some other hardware failure.
