Google nest cameras not starting after power failure — USELESS CAMERAS!!!

Google, pull your XXXX finger out and fix this issue.  I have 6 cameras 4 of which did not restart for the 10th time after a power outage.  These cameras ARE NOT FIT for the use you describe!!!

This issue is WELL known and you continue to ignore it.  I am thinking this needs to be pushed harder by Google as it is NOT isolated and WELL known…

Considering how we PAY$$$ for these take some responsibility…

Hi jono2010,

Oh no! I’m sorry to hear that you’re having issues with the Nest cameras; that isn’t the experience we want you to have. Let’s check it out.

A few questions: what model of Nest cameras do you have? After the power is restored, what is the color of the status light?

If they don’t automatically restart after the power outage, you may manually restart the Nest cameras.

Keep me posted.

Best,

Lance

Lance this is a less than useful post...

The camera's are a range of Nest Cam Outdoor and Indoor models all with varying purchase dates.  The older they get the worse they seem to get

It’s not just 1 camera. It’s all the cameras and random ones every time the power goes out. Sometimes it’s four cameras, sometimes it’s two cameras. If I had known the issues with this, I would not have purchased these are they are obviously faulty and Google will not fix or replace them.  It is a clear fact that Google have known about this issue and have kept it quiet for obvious reasons!

Just read all the complaints...

Hey folks,

@jono2010, we appreciate you getting back to us. We wanted to isolate this issue and ask some probing questions so that we can provide the right resolution. We wanted to know the light status to know what's happening to your Nest Cameras. Sometimes, you don't need to remove, reset and re-add them. If it's a power outage, you may just restart them so that they will automatically reconnect to the power and Wi-Fi connection.

I appreciate the help, Lance.

Regards,

Emerson

@EmersonBthere are a LOT of reports of these same issues.

For me, when the power has gone out, the cameras (from memory) that do not restart and do not have a power light on, however this maybe incorrect as my priority is to get them all back online again.

BTW I have tried recycling the power building power in a hope that this will jog them back to life -- this does not work.  Otherwise it's an hours job with the ladder...

The power lead needs to be removed then plugged back in for them to restart.

I am happy to provide further information as required as I just want to get this long overdue issue solved.

Thx!
Jon

Hello jono2010,

Thanks for your update. To confirm, have you tried checking if there are damages on their power cables? Are all of your Nest Cameras wired or do you have a battery type as well? If after restart there's still a problem, we would recommend you to reset them to the factory default.

To learn more about reset, you may visit our public article about "Restart or factory reset Nest camera or doorbell".

Best,

Emerson

The cameras will fail randomly upon the mains power coming back online.  All the cables look fine and noting the first comment it cannot be the cables as sometimes they come back online and then sometimes they do not.

All the cameras are powered.

To factory reset them will take quite some time -- at the moment this will not be possible (too busy pre Xmas).  However going back to the first note -- we know that they will fail randomly hence I am not sure a reset will achieve anything new?
