I recently setup the Nest Indoor and Outdoor cameras in my home, and got the Home/Away Assist feature setup and working great (This was the only reason I was willing to buy the Indoor cam if it auto-turned off when coming home). Recently, after a weekend away from home, the indoor camera has failed to turn off when coming home, sometimes the entire Presence Sensing function fails to work and will still think i am "Away" when I am home. I noticed both apps have a section where you toggle "Use this phone", however it will only be active in 1 app at a time. Presence sensing used to work because when I would get near or leave my neighborhood, I'd see the service notification popup on my phone "Updating location"; that doesn't happen anymore. Which one should I have it active in? Should I remove the cameras from the Home app altogether since I primarily view them (and have more functionality) in the Nest app? I need some advice as this is starting to irritate me!

Hey there, Paul.

Sorry for my late response. Thank you for all of your patience while waiting for a reply. I just wanted to make sure that your issue is addressed. I see what you mean with this particular issue. Both applications are great in many different ways!

So I typed out this long reply only to have google jack it up, like it does with most things it touches..... I guess I will start over...

Context: I have 2 iPhone 13 Pro Max's and 1 iPhone 12 in my household. I have 1gb Fiber internet running to my house that can stream even the longest 4k movie over a wifi enabled Roku. I have the $350 Nest IQ Outdoor cam, the $200 Nest Hello doorbell cam, and the $400 Nest secure pack, all of them are hardwired to power. I have 2 home hubs and 3 home minis. I also pay for the nest aware subscription as well as brinks home monitoring subscription.

When I first purchased the nest doorbell I would get notifications quickly. When I first purchased the nest IQ outdoor cam I would get notifications quickly. When I first purchased the nest secure pack, I would get notifications quickly. I would get the reminder almost in the exact same spot every time I would leave my house to arm the alarm if I forgot. It would also remind me in almost the exact same spot every time when I would arrive at my house to disarm the alarm. Then google stepped in and changed everything.

Once google started changing the apps, I have not received notifications in any sort of timely manner, usually anywhere from 10 to 15 minutes after something has occurred to cause a notification if I even get one at all. This is on both the hello doorbell and the IQ outdoor cam. The doorbell will ring in my house to all of my google devices, most of the time its almost 1 minute after someone has pressed the button. I haven't had any sort of consistency on receiving reminders to arm / disarm my alarm. It works great for a few days then won't work for a month, no matter what settings I change. Oddly, I spoke about changing the alarm system because I was tired of not getting notifications even when I am in my house connected to the same network all of my nest products are on and for about 3 or 4 days I received all notifications quickly to include the reminder to arm / disarm my alarm. I have to wonder if google wasn't listening in on my home hub. Then just like that it stopped working again. Many times someone will ring my doorbell and I am left talking to the plants in front of the house because by the time I got the notification the person got tired of waiting and left. After I reviewed the footage it had been about 6 minutes from the doorbell ring to the time I actually got the notification.

I have tried everything from deleting all google apps from my phone and using only the nest app to deleting the nest app and only using the google apps. I still get no notifications on my phone, no reminders, nothing. I am very frustrated because I do pay for additional features but google can't even get the free features to work correctly.

When I originally installed the google home app on my phone so I could set up my home hub it asked me to set up home / away routines. Part of those routines is that it would arm / disarm my alarm based off my phone location. That has yet to work either.

I purchased the nest products because they were (in my opinion) the best on the market. Since google's acquisition and takeover of their products, they have turned to garbage. Nothing works and it's extremely frustrating to think that I spent over $1000 (including my annual subscription of $60 a year for nest and $20 a month for brinks) for paper weights.

Please fix this or provide something better than a link to promote your crappy home app.
