Issues Creating Timelapse Clips

NestUser582
Community Member

I'm having trouble creating timelapse (TL) clips on a MacBook browser. I have no trouble saving regular clips, only TLs. The day I'm saving from is the oldest date (60 days back). I have a NestAware Plus subscription. I have not exceeded the allotted 3 hours of saved videos.

When I try to create a 1-minute TL that spans two events, the resulting TL is 1 second. When I try to create a 1-min TL from within a single 3-minute event, no TL is created at all.

Attached are screenshots of the timelines from the two examples above.

Does anyone have a suggested fix?

Thank you very much!

Hello,  I'm an end user like you.  The only thing I can think of is that the full 24/7 footage only applied to the last 10 days.  Days 11-60 only store the 'events'.    Will it let you save a time lapse from something that is 10 days or less?  If so I think this is what you might be running into.... just a guess

I can't check your suggestion at this moment. I'll see. But if it is true, why couldn't I save a TL from *within* a single event that occurred more than 10 days ago? TBD..

I would thing you could to that.   But I thought your original post was about saving a TIME LAPSE.

You’re correct - it was.

Perhaps my test/example was misguided — is it not possible to create a TL from within a single event? Eg, if the timeline shows a single event of 5 minutes, isn’t it possible to create a 1-min TL of 4 of those minutes inside that event?

I'm not sure as it is a feature I have never used.  The only thing I can think of would be to pull it into a Mac computer and import it into iMovie and make the timeline that way... or there are probably 20 other websites that will let you take a 5 minute clip and make a timeline.   ... not sure this will help but I thought I'd mention it.

Hi everyone,

@NestUser582, thanks for reaching out here in the Community. How's it going with your video clips? Were you able to try the steps that EmptyNester has shared? Also, to further isolate this issue, have you tried using a different web browser? In case you have an update, you know where to find us.

I appreciate the help, EmptyNester.

Regards,

Emerson

Hello. A different browser made no difference.
Per my Q to Empty, can a TL be made from within a single event?

Thank you.

Emerson,

I just tried a couple troubleshooting steps but still couldn't create a timelapse. I used Chrome, not Safari, and I tried to create a timelapse from a single event within the past 10 days. The result was a 1-second timelapse.

What do you suggest?

Thank you,

William

@NestUser582 Hello,  I'm and end user here as well.  Is the creation of ALL timelapse clips failing for you?

I can confirm for me the creation of Time Lapse is intermittent.  I just attempted to make about 10 different timelapse clips and here is what I found:

I'm on an iMac running OSX 12.6.8 and most up-to-date Version of Safari.  I'm at home.nest.com.   I got about 5 of them to work just fine and about 5 failed.   All of the successful ones were when I used a longer time period of about 15 minutes or more.   When I set most the start/end time to less than that they often (but not always) failed.   In all cases regardless of length the system made the clip for me in under 15 seconds.  But it was easy to spot when they were failing because I would get the spinning-processing wheel for more than 30 seconds.  I even noticed that when I went to look at my clips there were some timelapse clips showing at "processing" that I had initiated weeks ago.

Being a computer software guy my opinion is that I don't the computer or the browser has anything to do with issue.  It looks to me like 100% a google issue since after we click the 'make clip' button it is all on Google at that point to make the clip.  Nothing I know of is happening on our computers that contributes to the clip generation.

Also, since Google is shifting everything over to home.google.com (where you can't yet make clips) and they are phasing out home.nest.com my expectation is they will probably not fix this (This is just  my opinion and I would be happily surprised if they address this and fixed it).

Thank you for the experimentation. Your conclusion that it's a google issue makes sense to me.

Emerson, what do you know about rules and limitations re the generation of timelapses, per EmptyNesters most recent reply?

Thank you very much.
