My doorbell battery cam wont turn on

Dougc143

It won't turn on when charging. It won't turn on when mounted, and when I restart it, it wakes up for about 10 seconds. I can't factory reset it because it's appearing offline in the app. Bell, please

Hi folks,

@Dougc143, thanks for reaching out to us, and I'm sorry to hear about the situation. I want to check if you are still in need of any help. If so, please answer the following:

  1. Did the Nest doorbell work when it was first installed? If yes, how long has it been since installation?
  2. If it’s a replacement for a previous doorbell, did the previous doorbell worked or if there were any issues with it?
  3. Is the doorbell paired to a Nest account?
  4. Has there been any recent power outage in the area?
  5. Where is the device installed?
  6. Has it been exposed to direct sunlight? Note that the Nest doorbell is highly recommended to be installed within its operating temperature range of 5° to 104°F (-15° to 40°C).

I'll look forward to your response.

Best,

Zoe

It was brand new when we installed it. And it worked great. It was battery-operated so a power outage wouldn't have affected it other than the wifi. It's installed on my front door and we haven't seen any severe heat or colds since I've had it. I still need assistance with this issue, please.

Hi there,

Gotcha. Can you try these steps?

  1. Verify the status of the Nest doorbell in the app.
    • Through the Nest or Google Home app, verify if the doorbell is offline.
      • Open the Google Home app.
      • Tap Favorites or Devices.
      • Tap and hold your device's tile > More > Settings.
      • Select Battery.
  2. Check the LED status light of the Nest doorbell.
  3. Check if the wires are securely and properly connected.
    • Make sure the wires are properly connected to the back of the Nest doorbell and that the screws are snug.
    • Check for wire corrosion at the doorbell and the wires that lead to the chime connector.
    • Check the wiring at the chime and the chime connector to make sure it’s secure and that there’s no exposed wiring (Example: exposed copper shouldn’t come into contact with metallic parts of the chime or other wires, if there are loose or unused wires they should be capped off).
  4. Check the Voltage reading,
    • Test for power and connect the Nest doorbell with an indoor adapter and a mini USB or a type-C USB cable.
      • Connect the cable to the port at the back of the doorbell.
        • Bring the Nest doorbell inside and let it warm up to room temperature in a warm, dry place. (Do not wrap it in a heated towel or place it near any heating elements.)
        • After the device has warmed up, plug it into the USB port at the back of the Nest doorbell to charge the internal battery.
Wait for 5 to 10 minutes and check if it turns on. The internal battery is small and shouldn't take long to charge.
  5. If you have a multimeter, check the voltage at the doorbell. To check the voltage on doorbell wires, refer to the steps below.
    • For older model multimeters:
      • Set the dial to 200 VAC.
      • If the multimeter doesn’t have a 200 setting, choose 100 or 250.
      • The general rule is, don’t set it too high (500+) or too low (50).
      • Place the leads on each wire. It doesn't matter which multimeter lead goes to which wire.
      • The expected readout should be between 16 to 30V (12 to 24V for Europe).

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Zoe
