Nest doorbell installation issue

I was having problem with chime and announcements. So I deleted the Nest Doorbell from Nest app and tried to reinstall. But it is coming to a point when it is trying to connect to “assisting device”. I am getting NC014 error.I don’t have any other compatible devices (i have 2 Nest Thermostats, Google Home, Google Mini).

please let me know how I can connect it to wifi without going to the Assisting Device step

@Nmkhere

This "assisting device" error has been around for a couple of years (search this forum for "assisting device"), and Google Nest has apparently still not fixed it. Instead of having you select your network name (SSID) and enter your Wi-Fi password, the Google Nest install process tries to get that info from another Google Nest device (like a thermostat), but the process fails.

Some users have been able to get past this product failure by temporarily turning off all of their other Google Nest devices during the install process.

You could also try moving your Nest Hello Doorbell close to one of your other Google Nest devices during the install, although Google Nest's online help documentation for the "NC014" error (https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9240048?hl=en-AU#camera_cant_connect&zippy=%2Cnc-errors...) claims that none of those devices are used as an "assisting device".  Other customer posts in this forum say that the thermostat IS used as an "assisting device" but does not work well.

It hasn't happened to us, but I've seen endless posts from other customers on this.

Hello everyone,

@Nmkhere, thanks for reaching out here in the Community. During setup, your Nest Camera or Nest Doorbell will try to get Wi-Fi information from the other Nest products in your home. Your Nest Camera or Nest Doorbell will know that there’s another Nest product in your home because it will find the product in the Home app or Nest app. If your Nest Camera or Nest Doorbell can’t connect to the other Nest product, it won’t be able to get the information it needs to complete setup. When it can’t connect, one of these help codes may appear. Can you still recall which of your Nest devices was initially installed?

I appreciate the help, MplsCustomer.

Best,

Emerson

Thanks for your message. Yes it is trying to connect to another device, which I believe it is  looking for Nest Thermostats. One of them is less than 20 feet from my doorbell. Based on some tips in these forums, I also tried doorbell next to Nest Thermostat with USB power. It didn’t work.

Finally I created a new “home” and that allowed me to enter wifi password.
