I wanted to share my experience with the Google Nest Doorbell, and unfortunately, in my honest opinion, it falls short in several aspects.
Firstly, the absence of a feature allowing pre-recorded messages for visitors is a significant drawback for me. It would have been convenient, especially when conveying messages about being away on vacation.
Additionally, the limitation to use only a built-in house chime, phone, or Google Assistant as the alert system is inconvenient. While using my phone is an option, keeping it off silent mode can be bothersome, especially during sleep or when engaged in voice chats.
I've noticed a decline in performance during colder temperatures, impacting it's battery life. It seems counterintuitive for an outdoor device to struggle in low temperatures.
As for battery life, even with the highest power-saving mode engaged, the doorbell requires a full day to recharge, and a single charge lasts a mere 5 days. These constraints diminish its reliability for continuous use.
The pricing is another concern, especially considering the need to purchase additional Google products/subscriptions for certain essential features. This added expense does not align with the overall value proposition.
In conclusion, I cannot recommend the Google Nest Doorbell to those seeking robust home security. The combination of feature limitations, cold weather performance issues, subpar battery life, and the hefty price tag make it a less-than-ideal choice in the market.
