When I use the talk and listen function on my doorbell I can hear the person at my doorbell on my phone fine, but they can barely hear me, even when I have my mouth right up against my phone's microphone. My phone works fine on calls. I've turned the volume up in the Home app for the doorbell but it's made no difference. Any ideas why they are hearing me so quietly?

Finally someone with the same problem. I've been trying to find a solution for this problem. Nest support is no use, only answer i got from then is to get my phones repairs as its the problem with my phones (Galaxy s20+ and s21+). Btw, what phone do you use?

I am using a Galaxy S10 and have the same problem, I have to put my telephone so close to my mouth to make myself clear. Meanwhile I know the speaker can be loud enough by playing the pre-recorded responses.

Same issue here. I also tested it with nest hub that came with the preorder. And its loud and clear. So i am guessing there is an issue with the home app.

Just seen your replies. Don't know why it didn't tell me people had responded?

Anyway, I'm using a Note10+ but also tried on another Samsung and same issue. After being online with nest support for over an hour trying different things they eventually said it must be faulty and sent me another one. That second one arrived yesterday and.....exactly the same issue. As you say the prerecorded messages are fine, just talk and listen is so, SO quiet. Not my phone as does the same thing with another phone. What's the point of having the function if it only really works one way?!

I have the exact same issue with Samsung galaxy s10. My wife has same issue with Samsung galaxy S10e. I have read that the previous version of nest doorbell had the same issue with Samsung phones (not fixed in 2 years). The code to activate the Samsung phones microphone is most probably accessing the wrong mic hardware.

Talk-back from the same phone to other branded cameras works fine i.e.Xiaomi.

**bleep**... That's a bad news. I suspected that when others having the same issues on the above replies had samsung as well. If they have not fixed this in the last few years, i guess they are not interested in fixing this. No wonder the nest support told me to have my phone fixed. They probably knew about the issue and did not want to admit there is an issue with Samsung phones that they don't want or can't fix...

I got the same issue samsung s20 ultra   has anyone fixed the  problem ?

Nope, Google are aware. I have raised a ticket with support. I suggest everyone does the same. If enough people rattle the cage, something might get fixed

Same issue with Note 20 Ultra 5G.

I'm wondering if this is the right place to report about these quirks, maybe the google issuetracker is a better place?

I've got a ticket open with Google at the moment and they're investigating. I've sent them a video showing how quiet it is. Last I heard it was being looked at by "engineers" but that was a week ago and nothing since. Just chased them for another update.

Where did you raise a ticket for this? I'd like to do the same, because this is getting more and more disappointing.

I did it through their general customer help. They did loads of "troubleshooting" with me, including sending out a new unit, before eventually agreeing to escalate it to an engineer. I'm still chasing and chasing but no update. They acknowledge my chasing but give me no information on what's being done. It's such poor service.

Definitely not something you would expect from google. They simply deny to believe their app could have the issue and put you through all sort of hurdle, so delaying the bug fix. Its a bit shocking its not resolved yet. Not even sure if their developer is aware of the issue...

Same issue with a A20e and a S10e.

But no problem with a pixel5.

Echo and low voice at doorbell. Very difficult to talk with visitors.

same issue with s20plus

I think the problem is that the Google home app is not compatible with Samsung telephones because it selects the wrong microphone? On a galaxy s10 you have 2 microphones, the RCV_DualMic and the SPK_2ndMic, you can loopback test them both by dialling *#0283#. When selecting the RCV_DualMic, the audio is looped back the right way and proves this is the microphone to select. I think the google home app is using the SPK_2ndMic.

Hopefully if enough people report it to them they'll eventually fix it, but I'm not holding my breath.

I have the same problem. I have a Samsung S10 and the sound when talking trough phone is so low that I cant use it.

When I answer with a Nest Hub (2.gen) the sound is loud and clear from the doorbell speaker. So there is not an problem with speaker.

I'm still having to chase them for an update. So far they've offered me 1 years nest subscription as compensation but not actually done anything about fixing the actual issue?! This is shocking service for a company as big as Google. Feels like they're just fobbing me off until I get bored and go away. Doubt they're ever actually going to fix the issue.

Same issue,  Galaxy 21 Ultra.  Huge disappointment!

Thanks and I also suggest TWEETING on Twitter to @MadeByGoogle about the problem.  They keep tweeting me back about it and I showed them this thread link.  They don't like people talking about it in the Public.

Hello google support, when is the software going to be fixed for the whole samsung galaxy line?

Seakers4Sneakn

Same issue on my S20+ Shocking support. Just stubled across this after recently installing the doorbell. How can this issue that clearly impacts such a large userbase go unresolved for so long!? The response (or lack of) from google on this issue is insane. @Jelmer_  keep us updated on your progress with the tech sites. Would be very interesting to see if this gains any traction.

I'm chasing and chasing Google support through my ticket and nothing. Just keep getting told it's being looked at by another team who will be in touch. I've asked how long...when....how can I speak with this "other team" and nothing. Disgusting service from Google

Unbelievable, seems so easy to fix, just select another microphone in the software.... but that's the problem with a big tech company, they don't listen to customers anymore.

I have just purchased my first nest cam and have the exact problem. It sucks as I have the doorbell on the way too. Using an S20+

Is it really so that the talk-back functionality is not working with the new Nest Cameras from any Samsung devices and the only thing Google does is to hide the complaints and negative feedback? (https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Apps-Account/How-do-I-get-the-camera-talk-function-to-work-on... is now closed...)

I have a active ticket with Google now regarding this issue. Provided logs, phone details (models that work *none are Samsung* and models that don't) they have been pretty active in the ticket so far. I'm actually getting the pixel 6 Pro in a few days so I have asked them to inform this thread of any findings.

I hope you'll provide us with information here, because I have a hard time believing google engineers are capable of fixing this. It is a issue / problem that runs from 2019 now, they never fixed it for Samsung phones:

Evidence:

https://support.google.com/googlenest/thread/69303826/nest-outdoor-cam-speaker-audio-very-low-samsun...

If they reply with anything meaningful I'll be sure to let you know. They were fairly receptive in updating this thread directly. But I'll keep a eye on the case regardless

Please let them now all the links to this issue, they can close hundreds of tickets solving this problem. In the link I posted above, you'll find 10+ more links.

Already done. I provided the list you posted. Apart from updating you if I hear anything, I think I've done all I can.

Hello xxxx,

We've just heard back from our higher level tier — we've been informed that our Engineering team is already aware of the issue and is working on a fix. However, there's no estimated time for it. Don't worry, we'll immediately contact you once we get a word.

For now, kindly utilize the web app for the Talk and Listen feature. We'll be here if there's anything else.

Thank you,
Alexander

Good luck all. Doesn't seem like this is getting the attention it needs anytime soon.

Thanks for sharing. Can't use the web app with the new Nest doorbell as google had not released it... I wonder if the talk back works with google nest cams from any Samsung phones.

Galaxy s10, same issue. Sooo frustrating. I am all in Samsung + Google. This must be a priority.

Samsung + Google is the biggest alternative to Apple.
