Wouldn’t it be be great if the instructions actually worked?

I’m supposed to scroll through 1043 pages to find out why my driveway camera can’t be added to Nest Aware after I enter the 6 digit code? The instructions in the Nest app tell me to enter the code then wait, and wait, and wait for the serial number to appear which it NEVER does. How am I supposed to get my camera set for backups when there are zero more options when the serial number doesn’t load? Doesn’t google/nest out their products through testing prior to general release?

@Crapproduct

Are you by any chance trying to reinstall an older Google Nest Outdoor Camera in the Google Nest app without having first removed the camera from the Google Nest app and doing a factory reset?

Or are you trying to install the newer Google Nest Camera (Battery) in the Google Nest app when it has to be installed in the Google Home app?

The outdoor battery powered camera was installed less than 6 months ago. I have my nest doorbell cam on video back up on Nest and want to do the same with the driveway camera. Can’t get any further in the set up new product instructions than waiting for the last 4 digits of the serial number to load. I am at home, on the other side of the wall from the camera as I am trying to do this.

@Crapproduct

I don't know whether having a weak Wi-Fi signal can cause the setup procedure to fail to display your serial number during the install process, but have you tried performing the install process (https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/10919314?hl=en&co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid) with the camera indoors near a Wi-Fi access point?

If that works, it MIGHT mean you'll have issues with Wi-Fi signal strength once you mount your battery camera outside by your driveway.

By the way, is there any reason you're not using the QR code on the sticker on the face of the battery camera?

There is no Qr on the bottom of the camera like he instructions show. My camera is be much online and visible thru google home

@Crapproduct

If your camera is online and visible in the Google Home app, I don't know what the problem is.

On our older Google Nest Outdoor Cameras, the QR code and the 6-character Setup Code are on the curved back of the camera. These cameras were set up in the Google Nest app, where we can view their history.  We can also view history on the home.nest.com website.

On our Google Nest Camera (Battery), the QR code was on a sticker on the face of the camera, and the 6-character Setup Code is on the bottom of the camera. This camera was set up in the Google Home app, where we can view its history.

All of our cameras are in the same Google Nest "home/structure" and are covered by one Nest Aware Plus subscription.  We can also livestream all of our cameras on the home.google.com website.

Still unable to continue set up in nest aware. I click on Add Product, continue w/o QR code, enter the 5 digit code from the bottom of the camera, and I get stuck in the screen telling me my serial number will load shortly. Never does. I requested a call from nest support, never came. Have spent a lot of time on this and other then you asking me if I still have a problem, have no other info on how to get this to work, doorbell was added to nest aware, no problem. I can see the driveway cam in the google home app

@Crapproduct

What do you mean by "continue set up in nest aware"?

"Nest Aware" is a paid subscription service. It is separate from both the Google Nest app and the Google Home app, although the history provided by a Nest Aware subscription can be viewed in the Google Nest app (for older cameras) and in the Google Home app (for cameras and doorbells released starting in 2021).

The Setup Code is 6-characters long.

Sometimes the hangup with the serial number never displaying is due to trying to install a camera in the wrong app.

I have the nest aware app, paid! I have my nest doorbell set up in nest aware but am unable to get video backups for my driveway camera because of the reasons I stated in my emails. I can see the driveway camera in the google home app so I know it’s online. The manual set up prices breaks after I enter my five digit code and it tells me to wait a few moments for the last four digits of the serial number to appear. Not it never does!

I misspoke, my code is six digits long…

@Crapproduct

Let me try again. There is no "nest aware app". There is a Google Nest app and a Google Home app. Then there are Nest Aware subscriptions. The older 1st gen Nest Aware subscriptions, which go back years, are only available on the older cameras and doorbells that work in the Google Nest app, are per camera. The newer Nest Aware and Nest Aware Plus subscriptions apply to all cameras in either the Google Nest app and the Google Home app that are in the same Google Nest "home/structure" on the same Google (gmail) account.

The older 1st gen Nest Aware subscriptions provide up to 5, 10, or 30 days of 24/7 video history for each camera on the subscription. They are ONLY available on older cameras and doorbells that get installed in the Google Nest app.

The newer Nest Aware subscription provides up to 30 days of EVENT video history for all cameras in the same Google Nest "home/structure" on the same Google (gmail) Account.  This subscription has been available for a couple of years or so.

The newer Nest Aware Plus subscription provides up to 10 days of 24/7 video history and up to 60 days of EVENT video history for all cameras in the same Google Nest "home/structure" on the same Google (gmail) Account.  This subscription has also been available for a couple of years.

It seems you may have an older Google Nest Hell Doorbell that was originally installed in the Google Nest app and  a newer Google Nest Camera (Battery) that you installed in the Google Home app. The newer battery camera CANNOT be installed in the Google Nest app.

If your doorbell and camera are installed in the same Google Nest "home/structure" on the same Google (gmail) Account, and you have either of the newer Nest Aware or Nest Aware Plus subscriptions, then you should be able to see history in the Google Home app, by going to your camera and clicking on "History" and then "Full History".

If your doorbell is on a 1st gen Nest Aware subscription, that Nest Aware subscription does not and cannot apply to the newer battery camera. You would need to cancel that subscription and buy one of the newer subscriptions. And for this to work, you need to be logging onto the Google Nest app and the Google Home app with the same Google (gmail) Account and both the camera and doorbell need to be in the same Google Nest "home/structure".

If you are logging onto the Google Nest app with a non-gmail account, then you will also need to migrate that Nest Account to a Google (gmail) account, but you cannot use the Google Account you're using for the battery camera because--according to Google Nest's rules--it's already in use. So you would have to create a new Google Account, migrate your Nest Account there, remove your battery camera from the Google Home app on your current Google Account, do a factory reset, and then reinstall it on the Google Home app while logged on with your new Google Account, and then buy a new Nest Aware subscription. Sorry this is so involved; that's what Google Nest has set up.

Here's a link to what each type of Nest Aware subscription provides:

Here's a link to migrating if you have to resort to that:

My car was burgled again. Last night and because I’ve been able to get backups working. The driveway cam, I have nothing to show the police. I paid $60 for a nest aware subscription and it works just fine for my door bell camera. I still don’t understand why, when I go into Nest, can I not add another product!

Hi, thanks for the follow up, I was able to get telephone support and both cameras are now on nest aware. This can be closed out
