Add Google Chrome to speaker group

Hey guys,

just wondering: Why can I stream Audio from Youtube Music to existing speaker group, but not add Google chrome to that particular group? Hence it would stop the playback on the PC, but continues on all other devices across my house, but not the office 😞

Or do you know any extension/application which would achive this?

Hi @shinydemon

It can be frustrating that you can stream audio from YouTube Music but not Google Chrome. The reason you can cast YouTube Music to a speaker group but not Chrome audio is based on the differences between apps.

Here's the key difference:

  • YouTube Music Integration: The Google Home app, which likely controls your speaker groups, is tightly integrated with YouTube Music. This allows for seamless casting to speaker groups within the app itself.
  • Chrome Casting Limitations: Currently, Chrome casting doesn't directly support casting audio to speaker groups. It's designed more for casting entire browser tabs which might include video, audio, or webpages.

Here are some alternative approaches:

  • Cast directly from the source: Many audio streaming services like Spotify or Apple Music have built-in casting functionality within their apps. You might be able to cast directly to your speaker group from those apps.
  • Third-party casting tools: Although not ideal, some third-party casting tools like [BubbleUPnP] or [AirCast] might allow casting audio from your PC to your speaker group, even if it wasn't designed for that specific functionality. These tools can be more technical to set up.

For now, exploring casting directly from the audio source app, using your speaker system's app, or trying a third-party casting tool might be the best options.

Let us know if you're still having trouble after trying these options.

All the best,

Josh
