Can't use Google Home's in-app remote with my brand new chromecast

I've bought a new chromecast today (ironically to use with my Android TV because it's built in Chromecast won't let me open Netflix from my Pixel's assistant even though it's compatible, but that's another issue) and after setting it up, I am unable to use the remote function from my phone's google home app. Instead of the remote it reads "Full remote unavailable. Make sure your streaming device has the latest software." My Chromecast says it's up to date but the Gboard version says it's lower than what I need for the remote to function (need 11 but it's reading 10.0.0.5 on the Chromecast. I've tried removing from power, and reassociating the Chromecast with my phone but I'm out of ideas.

Hi,

There has been recent changes to the Google Home app and I don't currently have the new version myself. What I have found to be the most useful feature for controlling a CCwGTV from a Pixel phone is to install the Google TV app as this has the remote built-in but also allows it to be used from the quick tiles when you swipe downwards.

Thanks for the reply. I have the most up to date google TV app. When scanning, the remote only picks up the tv/built in Chromecast which I no longer want to use. The remote does work with the built in but not the external Chromecast.

Yes I have checked for updates within the CC multiple times in a row and multiple times within the last few hours, and just checked again before sending this message. I am all up to date.

I would say it took more than a few hours as I'm pretty sure I checked mine the next day to no avail, but today it's fine! Thanks again.
