I have a chromecast audio that I've used for many years. I moved house. I'm trying to set up the same chromecast audio. I have it plugged into the original google USB power adapter that I've always used. The google home app is giving me a message saying, "This device was previously set up by a different user. Please factory reset the device," so I have not been able to use it.
If the message is correct, then I must have set the device up with a google account that I no longer have.
I found the instructions for resetting the chromecast audio, but the device does not respond in the way that the instructions describe. I hold in the button for a long time (up to 60 seconds) but the LED never changes colour nor flashes. It just stays solid white.
I would be very grateful for any advice.
Possibly stupid question: I've had this device a long time. Is it possible that google's current reset instructions are for a newer model?

I've solved this issue.
@ByronP, the instruction in that link for factory resetting did not work for me.
I tried rapidly pressing and releasing the button on the chromecast audio. I noticed that on every fourth press the LED turned orange, and turned white again on release. Eventually, I managed to hold the button down on the fourth press.
press - release - press - release - press - release - press...hold
The LED flashed very rapidly and eventually turned solid white again. I let go of the button. The LED intermittently turned orange and back to white, eventually settling down into solid white again.
I used Google Home to set up the Chromecast Audio and it worked. (Whoop!!) No message about factory resetting. I am now streaming audio again. 😁

I'm having similar problems. I have a chromecast audio that I haven't used for a couple years or more. The device is probably 7 years old. New wifi and phones since used last. I'm able to get phone to recognize Device, but won't connect. I'm hoping someone can help.

Hi Folks,
Thank you for posting. I'm sorry that the Chromecast Audio won't connect. Help's here.
There are a few articles to check and troubleshoot the issue. Please review and try to factory reset your Chromecast Audio. Make sure to press the button for more than 60 seconds and wait until the light shows (you may need to keep pressing for a long time given the device settings).
After that, please set it up again. Here are the instructions to set up your Chromecast Audio.
Let me know if you need more help.
Regards,
Byron
