Chromecast remote

We was given a Chromecast (I believe 1st Gen, it's grey) when we purchased a small Non-smart tv, however neither came with a remote,*I know, shocker 😲* Somehow my husband managed to get the Chromecast connected to the WiFi and set up, (we are still not quite sure how it happened 🤔 but hey, it kinda works lol) So all we are technically able to do is cast off an Android Phone that we have made our honorary remote. We cast YouTube & Netflix, and that's the reality of our television life. I've tried using the Google Tv App but it wants me to use my Chromecast remote to pair the app to the actual device. So my question is, how can I get past that as I don't have a remote, or is there a different app I could download? Or am I stuck without one, am I able to purchase just a replacement remote or do we have to get a new system??  Thank you all very much for your time and answers!!

Ok. With your setup, there is nothing to connect to. The old style chromecasts don't run any apps. Any streaming serices you watch "TV" on need to be installed on the phone (HBO, Prime Video...). Google TV on you phone works like a TV guide. When you select something to watch (on the phone) it will open the correct app and start the program. At this point you can cast it to your chromecast. If you want to cut out the phone, you will need to upgrade your chromecast to the newer chromecast w/GTv. Your not seeing the request, because the old chromecast cannot receive it. It would be nice if the Google TV app would tell you that your equipment is not compatible with what your trying to do.

The original chromecasts do not have a remote. If your trying to "browse " on the tv screen instead of the phone, you will need the Chromecast w/GTv.

I guess what I'm trying to do & why I assumed I needed a remote was because when I try to connect the device to my Google Homee app on my phone it says it sent a request to the device, well for starters the "request" never shows up, & once it does how am I to accept it or whatever is required to move forward. I am unable to connect to a different internet or access the device settings or anything like that.
