Chromecast setup through Home app doesn't work, infinite loop

Hello. I have a Chromecast that is plugged into the HDMI as well as a USB port. It shows the welcome screen on the TV along with a ChromecastXXXX number. It tells me to open the Home app on my phone.

For what it's worth, I use the Home app often for our two thermostat devices and two other Chromecasts in our home.

When I go into the Home app for this device, I click the plus sign and add a new device. It says searching for devices, says it's connected, asks me what type of device I want to set up, I choose Chromecast, and then it sends me in a constant loop over and loop again. Nothing ever gets set up. Really frustrating.

Thanks for reaching out and sorry to hear that you are having an issue setting up your Chromecast devices. Let's sort this out.

 

Quick questions — what's the LED light status in your Chromecast (solid or flashing white)? What's the distance between the router and the Chromecast device? Please manually connect to the Chromecast SSID. Here's how: Go to the phone’s Settings > Open WiFi and connect to the Chromecast SSID (Example: Chromecast1234, Living Room TV, Bedroom TV, etc.) > Go to the Google Home app and try to set up again.

Thank you! Yes, connecting to the Chromecast as the WiFi indeed did the trick. It set up in the Home app almost instantly.
