Getting Google Assistant/Nest Audio Speakers To Turn On LG TV

So I have linked my Google Home with the LG ThinQ for my LG TV and that's all good (I know this works because if I hold down the Google Assistant button on the LG Magic Remote, it works),  but the final step is to be able to tell my Google Nest Audio Speakers to turn the TV On/Off using Hey Google with my voice.

Am I correct in saying that I need a Google Chromecast for this to work ?

I don't and will not use the Chromecast for any other function other than this one command, as my lights, heating etc are all set up and working fine. So if this is correct, I only need the cheaper HD Chromecast and not the 4k Chromecast?

PS: I have also posted this in the Speakers and Display Section.

Cheers

OK, I have now connected a Chromecast and it's all connected etc, but I still CANNOT get my Nest Audio Speakers to turn the TV on/off.  When I say Hey Google Turn TV Off, "she" says the TV is off right now....and I'm sitting watching a programme.

This SHOULD be a simple thing to do.....its driving me mad.

Surely someone else out there has managed to do this...can you share this with me ?

Hi 152bobby,

Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community. We’re sorry for the delay in response. Is this an LG smart TV with built-in Google Assistant functionality? Or the LG smart TV that has the “works with Google” feature? The approach where you need the Chromecast device involved in turning the TV on is with the use of the CEC function. But if what you’re trying to achieve is a smart device talking to another smart device so you can have the actual TV's functions work via voice commands such as changing channels, volume control, brightness and/or contrast adjustments, etc., then a Chromecast device has no such control because this is with the ThinQ smart functions. I suggest you watch YouTube videos of tech vloggers about this because the Google support team doesn’t handle it.

I hope this sheds light on the situation. Let us know if you have other questions.

Thanks,

Kimy
