Having a very similar issue as these two people here:
https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Chromecast/Google-TV-does-not-show-YouTube-or-other-apps-sear...
https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Chromecast/Google-Home-says-it-s-showing-YouTube-options-on-t...
Have two pairs of Google Chromecast/Google Mini's doing the exact same thing and not showing YouTube results when asking the Assistant into the Google Mini. Hoping @Jeran can help further as it seems the last thread I posted went dead with the user not replying, but I'd certainly like to get this fixed.
Here is the setup for one of the pairs, can provide the info on the other pair if needed as well:
-Google Home Mini (Model: H0A, Firmware Version: 282045, Cast Firmware: 1.56.282045)
-Chromecast (Model: NC2-6A5 Firmware: 275994, Cast Firmware 1.56.275994).
-Both devices are running off of my Google Wifi Mesh. (Have 3 of the AC-1304 pucks around the house, wifi signal strong)
-Both devices are set up in 'Basement' Room.
-Both devices being added/removed/troubleshot on the Home app on my Pixel 4.
When asking the assistant "Hey Google, show video options for XXXX" the mini seems to have more of a delay than before when this was working but eventually comes back with "Sure, here are some results for XXXX, playing on Basement TV, which one would you like?" (doesn't give the 'something went wrong' error message on my end). However after the assistant does reply, nothing shows up on the Chromecast like it used to (Used to open YouTube and show a number of options for videos to select). It just sits on the Chromecast Ambient background.
However, if we then say "Number XX" back to the assistant then it starts working. It then opens up whatever YouTube video 'Number XX' was and starts playing on the Chromecast. The problem is that the videos are completely blind and have no idea what we are choosing/playing.
- Hard to track down when this started as it seems we've had a couple weird problems with the setup over the last couple months that have forced me to completely reset the devices, but I can probably say this issue has been happening consistently for the last 2 weeks?
- All devices are up to date (that I am aware of, no firmware updates that I can see)
- Everything on the same Google Wifi mesh
- For troubleshooting I've tried everything I can think of at this point, rebooted/factory reset the devices, tried adding them to different Room's when re-adding them to the Home. Tried isolating them to the guest network, moved the devices to a different 'Home' to isolate them. Nothing seems to work and the same issue occurs.
-This doesn't seem to happen with other streaming services Like Netflix or Disney+, the mini will understand the command and open up whatever show on Netflix/Disney+ we ask for on the Chromecast.
Hoping you'll be able to help on this, I'm all in on the Google Home as my primary smart home system and have 60+ devices being controlled by the Assistant (lights/switches/thermostat/etc) and it's been super frustrating that everything else is working but the google products themselves. If there is any other troubleshooting info I can provide, please let me know!
Thanks!

they know but simply don't care
05-31-2022 08:18 AM
Well, good to see I'm not the only one at least 😄 was pulling my hair out thinking it was on my end. Assuming someone didn't check the older Chromecast models to make sure things still work after an update somewhere.

Hi folks,
Thanks for reaching out and for being a step ahead of us. To confirm, can you manually cast a video from your phone to your TV? Is the issue only happening when using a voice command to your Nest Mini to cast a video?
I'll look forward to your response.
Thanks,
Jennifer
06-04-2022 08:13 PM
correct. because when you manually cast it doesn't ask you to choose from a bunch of non-existent options
06-05-2022 06:35 PM
Hi Jennifer,
Thanks for getting back.
No issues directly/manually casting from the phone on this end, both by connecting to YouTube first without a video playing and playing a video, as well as casting while a video is also playing.
As well, doesn't seem like it's just a problem with the mini, I just tested our home speaker as well (Model:HOME Firmware: 282045) and seeing the same.
Let me know if there is any other info I can provide.

Hey folks,
We appreciate all the details and the steps you've done so far. Could you please send a feedback report on your Google Home app or speakers with a brief description of what's happening. To ensure it will be captured, please verify that "Send device usage data and crash reports to Google" is turned on before you submit the feedback.
Keep us posted once done.
Thanks,
Alex

done it every day for a month
also raised Case ID [3-8285000033077] which is being treated equally well
tell us... product expert... what happened when you tried it? (let's face it - we'll all get a giggle from your lie)
06-06-2022 01:12 PM
Hey Alex,
This has been done. Please let me know if anything else needs to be provided.
Thanks!
06-06-2022 02:57 PM
Hey TwoSevenThree,
Thanks for sending feedback. Could you fill out this form and let us know once you're done?
Best,
Alex
06-06-2022 03:04 PM
what happened when you tried it, alex?
06-06-2022 04:49 PM
Hey Alex,
Looks like there might be a problem with that form. Tried to fill out the info I could and it's coming back with "Refresh this page and try again. Sorry, there was a problem with the form."
Attempted with Chrome (primary browser), Firefox, Opera, and Edge. All the same result.

Hey TwoSevenThree,
Thanks for letting us know and we appreciate your patience. I'll be sending you an email so let's continue our conversation there.

Received and replied, thanks Alex!

Hi TwoSevenThree,
That's great to hear! Our team will reach out to you via email to further assist you. Also, please be advised that this thread will be locked after 24 hrs.
Thanks,
Alex
06-07-2022 10:10 PM
why lock the thread when the customers' issue is not resolved? does it look a bit bad because the product is garbage and nobody in "support" has a clue?
06-08-2022 08:31 AM
Hey Alex,
Could we please not lock this thread until this is resolved? From what I can see it seems quite a few people are experiencing this same issue and it's probably best we wait to post a resolution to help others (as well as yourself so you're not having to post on multiple threads), no?
With that being said, do we have an ETA on when I might get a reply on the ticket? Has been two days now with no reply. Assuming it's a different team than yours but would rather not have this issue die after doing all of this troubleshooting.
06-08-2022 05:51 PM
Hey folks,
Our team is already checking this and rest assured we'll update you once we hear from them though, we can't provide you a specific time frame. I'll be keeping this thread open so that we can provide you additional information once we hear news from our team.
Kind regards,
Alex

Casting from phone works, the issue is purely when the mini tries to give YouTube options, but will not show on the selected Chromecast device. If you choose "video number 1", without knowing what that is, it will play a video.
06-07-2022 10:11 PM
alex, before but you may have missed i asked what your results where when you tried this operation. did you get the same result as us?
06-09-2022 07:02 AM
As a quick update, just heard back from the Care Team to provide some additional troubleshooting. But they also did state "Our team is already aware of this and currently communicating with the YouTube team to get a fix." So it looks like this has already been flagged with the teams, which is great. Hopefully we get a timely resolution!

Hey TwoSevenThree,
Appreciate you for updating the Community forum, it's a big help. We'll be monitoring this as well so that we can update this thread once we receive an update.
Kind regards,

Hey there,
Our team is still working on a fix, just to check are you still experiencing this? Let us know, so that we can send a follow-up.
Best,
Alex

issue still exists. speaker now takes considerably longer to "think" before still not showing any options on the chromecast
06-13-2022 10:05 AM
Hi eighty666,
Thanks for updating us. I'll be sending a follow-up to our team so that we can check for an update. We appreciate your time.
Kind regards,
Alex

Hey Alex,
Yup, still happening on this end. Haven't heard back from thee Care Team after the initial reply yet as well.
06-13-2022 12:28 PM
Hey TwoSevenThree,
Got it. I already bumped the case for us to get an update. You can also reply to their email for an update.
Best,
Alex

Hey Alex,
Haven't heard anything back on my end yet. Any progress on your end by chance?
I've just purchased one of the newer Chromecasts with Google TV (Model: GZRNL), haven't set it up yet to see if it's happening with this model as well, but will get it set up and tested this week and can report back any findings as needed.
06-21-2022 11:01 AM
Hey TwoSevenThree,
Thanks for the update. We don't have any news to share about the case but rest assured our team is still working on a fix. I'll update this thread once I hear from them. As for the Chromecast with Google TV, YouTube is built-in to and it has a remote so it's easier for you to watch from it.
Best,
Alex

Hey TwoSevenThree,
I wanted to check in and provide an update for you. At this time, we are still looking into the issue, and what could be the cause. I know this is not an ideal answer, but we do appreciate your patience. Please let me know if you have any questions from here, as I would be happy to review.
Best regards,
Jake

Hey LiamGJ,
Thank you for sharing that information with us. I will be sure to send that on over to our Team to review. I know this is not the most ideal situation, and I do appreciate your patience as our Team looks into this further.
Best regards,
Jake

Hey all,
I wanted to jump in, and let you know our Team is still looking into the issue. I do appreciate your patience, and please let me know if you have any questions from here.
Best regards,

Jake, has your team found a solution yet?
If not can I suggest getting a new team because this is LUDICROUS that this is still ongoing IF you are actively trying to fix it.
However, if you are just occasionally posting a random "update" to us, in the hope that we will eventually give up and just move on (and I highly suspect this is indeed what you are doing) then just keep a hold of your team as they are doing an absolutely fantastic job at being thoroughly useless.

Still ongoing. Has your team found a fix yet?

Thank you for sharing, I am using Chromecast (don't know which gen, bought about 3-4 years ago), and home mini (2nd gen). I'm experiencing the same issue recently. It used to be perfect, YouTube search results were able to display on TV via Chromecast. It shows nothing now. But YouTube videos can play on TV after we say 'number xx', like opening a blind box.
07-23-2022 11:46 AM
I'm just going to jump right in on this thread as I've had the same issue as everyone else. The exact same issue. And I've been posting on another thread about it and I've had exactly zero help on that thread. This has been ongoing for a month or so now. SURELY Google can figure out when the problem is in 6 weeks? Go back to the previous code and look what changed!! Spent hundreds and hundreds on Google products for myself and my family so the kids and the elderly parents can just talk to the TV for stuff and now it's useless.

Hey folks,
Our team is still working on a fix. We'll keep you updated once we have more details to share — we appreciate your patience.

the products are dead in the water. suggest scrapping them and moving to alexa
nest doorbells don't work on samsung microphone arrays since 2019
giving a scene a room broken since 2018
jbl speakers have a broken eq since 2020
chromecast overlaya broken 2022
none of these things are EVER going to be fixes. alphabet inc needs us to put our chromecasts in landfill and buy shiny lemon scented google tv instead
09-17-2022 04:27 AM
Come on Google, just fix this! I was really enjoying the simplicity of not having to use a remote..
09-28-2022 12:45 PM
This exact same issue has been plaguing me for several months now. I'm so thankful that I'm not the only one. I bought a brand new Google nest mini and a brand new Chromecast hoping it would fix the issue. Nope. Nadda.
I'm a Disabled Veteran with Quadriplegic paralysis due to my injuries. I rely on these voice activation devices throughout my day. Not being able to see the YouTube search results at the bottom of my TV screen is pretty irritating . I have a "Dark Screen Thunder & Rain 10 hrs." vid that I listen to on YouTube that really helps me sleep.
I used to be able to search for it with no issues. Now I just have to guess. Is it 1,2,3, or 4 tonight?
Anything you guys could do to fix this would be appreciated.
Thanks.
