my Google account was set up in the uk. I have read previous posts saying that if you set up an account abroad you can change your location via play store but I am on ios now so how do I do this? I am based in Australia now.

I never managed to access it through the chrome app. I set up a new payment profile for Australia as this was a suggestion. It said it can take 48hours to take affect so I will try today. If not I may just set up a new Google account for using devices which is a bit annoying.
I’m sorry for the trouble. You will use the Chrome browser to visit the website: https://play.google.com and from there you can proceed in applying the changes.
