My chromecast won't work on PC but works on phone

Hi, I used to be able to use my PC and to launch Chromecast from Chrome, however, since a while back it hasn't been working. It works perfectly on phone and I have never have issues connecting my phone to my chromecast. With my PC, however, it first would find the chromecast but whenever I tried connecting it would tell me "The Connection with your device was lost" on the TV screen after a few seconds of the screen being blacked out. I reset my chromecast and now it still works like normal on phone, however, my PC won't even recognize that there is a device to cast to. It also doesn't show up in bluetooth devices.

Any help is more than welcome! Have a good day!

Hello everyone,

It sounds frustrating that your Chromecast isn't working with your PC anymore, but there are a few things we can try to fix it. Here are some steps you can take:

1. Check the Basics:

  • Make sure both PC and Chromecast are on the same Wi-Fi network: This is the most common culprit. Double-check that they're connected to the same network name and password.
  • Restart your devices: Sometimes a simple restart can clear up glitches. Restart your PC, Chromecast, and router/modem. Unplug them for a minute or two before turning them back on.

2. Update Chrome and Software:

  • Update Chrome browser: An outdated Chrome browser might have compatibility issues with Chromecast. Open Chrome, click the three dots in the top right corner, go to "Settings" -> "About Chrome" and update if necessary.
  • Update Windows (or your OS): Outdated system software can also cause problems. Check for Windows updates (or updates for your operating system) and install them if available.

3. Address Network and Firewall Issues:

  • Disable VPN or Proxy: If you're using a VPN or proxy service, try temporarily disabling it to see if it interferes with the connection.
  • Check Firewall settings: Your firewall might be blocking the connection. Look into your firewall settings and see if there are any restrictions for Chromecast or Chrome.

4. Advanced Troubleshooting:

  • Forget Chromecast network on PC: In your PC's Wi-Fi settings, forget the Chromecast network and try reconnecting.
  • Change display settings: On your PC, try changing the display resolution or projection settings. Sometimes these settings can cause casting issues.
  • Reset Chromecast to factory settings: If nothing else works, you can try resetting your Chromecast to factory settings. This will erase all its data and settings, so make sure you have the Wi-Fi network information handy.

Additional Resources:

By following these steps systematically, you should hopefully be able to get your Chromecast working with your PC again. If you're still having trouble after trying these suggestions, the Google Chromecast Help Center might have additional solutions or you can contact Google Support for further assistance.

Best,

Brandon.
