Unable to cast to Chromecast (Disconnected Device)

I just purchased a Chromecast with Google TV because I wanted to use the Cast functionality. Using Google Home App (iOS) I was able to set up and configure the device using my iPhone and the Chromecast shows up in the Google Home App as "Living Room TV" (1 Device).

But as soon as I complete the setup on the TV,  when I tap on the "Living Room TV" icon, I get the error "Disconnected Device".   Also I am unable to cast to the Chromecast with Google TV device. But, I am able to watch YouTube/Netflix/ on the Chromecast with Google TV?!?

I am unable to cast from the Pandora App on my iPhone. I am also unable to cast from my Windows 10 and Mac computers using Chrome. In Google Home App, I get the "Disconnected Device" error when I tap the "Living Room TV" icon. (See attached pic below).

  • Chromecast with Google TV
    - Android TV OS version 10
    - Android TV OS security patch level April 5, 2021
    - Kernel version 4.9.180 #1 Fri May 7 04:21;10 UTC 2021
    - Android TV OS build QTS1.210311.008.7350836

  • Google Home version: 2.42.120

  • iPhone 7 Plus
    iOS 14.7.1 (up-to-date as of Sept 1, 2021)

Here are the facts:

  1. I have restarted the Chromecast device (still unable to cast and "Disconnected Device" error)

  5. I have unplugged and replugged in my Chromecast device (still unable to cast and "Disconnected Device" error)
  6. I have restarted my Router (still unable to cast and "Disconnected Device" error)
  7. I have logged into my Router and verified that there are no private VLANs (all devices can see each other). (still unable to cast and "Disconnected Device" error)
  8. I have logged into my Router and verified that the Router sees both my iPhone and the Chromecast device on the same network.
    - Chromecast Device 192.168.1.9
    - iPhone 192.168.1.16
  9. From my Computer I am able to ping 192.168.1.9 and I can ping 192.168.1.16
  10. I have verified that the Google Home App on my iPhone has permissions to access the Local Network (still unable to cast and "Disconnected Device" error)
  11. I have verified that BlueTooth is enabled on my iPhone
  12. I tried to download the latest Chromecast firmware, but it said the device was up-to-date
  13. I tried to download the latest Google Home App from the Apple Store but it said it was up-to-date
  14. I went into my iPhone network settings and made sure
    - Private WIFI Address was ON (still unable to cast and "Disconnected Device" error)
    - Private WIFI Address was OFF (still unable to cast and "Disconnected Device" error)
  15. I have tried to cast from Pandora App, but it does not detect any Chromecast device ("No Available Devices")
  16. I have verified that the Pandora App on my iPhone has permissions to access the Local Network (still unable to cast and "No Available Devices" error)
  17. I have tried to cast from Chrome v93.0.4577.63 (Official build) (64bit) the latest version (Sept 1 2021) using Windows 10 (Version 21H1 OS Build 19043.11.65) but it does not detect any Chromecast device (No Devices Found. Sources drop down is empty)
  18. I have tried to cast from Chrome Version 93.0.4577.63 (Official Build) (x86_64) (MacOS 11.5.2 Big Sur) but it does not detect any Chromecast device ("No Devices Found. Sources drop down is empty")

If anyone has any ideas what I else I can do, to get casting to work please let me know!!

I attached some pics of the "Living Room TV" that was added, after I completed the Set Up using the Google Home App, as well as the Local Network setting and the Disconnected device error.

Hey there,

I'm sorry about the delayed response, I really appreciate your patience! It looks like your new Chromecast with Google TV is giving you quite the headache, I'd be happy to help find where the problem is. Let me just ask you a few questions to better understand what's happening:

  • Is your router a dual-band router?
  • Are your devices on the same network band that you set the Chromecast up on?

Aside from those, I would also check out and follow the steps in this article here. If you run into any issues inside that article, or if you have any more questions, please let me know!

Best regards,

Jeran
