Google Home Device glitch, error

docjacksonx
Community Member

I have two of these, one in separate rooms. It's a very common occurrence to have it say there was a glitch or that something went wrong. when this happens, I can use the assistant app on my iphone or the google home app on the iphone without problem.  This is a GOOGLE problem!@

I have done factor resets. We have 1 Gig internet speed. We have brand new router. we have brand new cable modem.  Nothing has worked so far.

Anyone else having these issues? This started about two months ago...

Juni,

I have two Nest Minis and to Nest Audios. Two are in the same room. This started about 4 or 5 months ago. 80% of the time I ask the speakers to stop, I get the something went wrong message.  The home app problem has also been going on for about the same time. I have closed the app, turned wifi on and off and still it will show that a speaker is not playing. Most times it is but can't be controlled from the app. There have been times I have asked for a group to play and one of the two speakers doesn't respond so I have to stop play and request the group play again. I have uninstalled and re-installed the app to try to fix it.

The only other device that responds to commands is my Pixel 4a5g phone. I have turned it off on my chromebook and tablet as the system seemed to get confused if they were all on in the same room.

It just seems there are glitches all around on Google. I really wish you would stop rearranging things on YouTube Music. The new "design" is a bit of a pain. Now having to go through drop downs to get to things. The former design was more streamlined. For the past few months it has taken a long time for my YT Music app to load on my phone.  I just get the spinning circle. I really don't care about new designs and curved corners for the look of the apps. Just make sure the apps work properly.

Before I decide to ditch any tech, I go through specific steps. First, APP updates and firmware updates are the first thing I try if i can't find a network issue. When everything else works as it should on the network then it's not a network issue - it's a specific device issue.

I can't go into details, but my wife works as an internet analyst and one of the clients it the Big G so she's PRO big G. Me, not so much. She too has been having the same issues. However, it doesn't appear as though the Google Pixel 7 has this issue or that the Google Home app on a phone has these issues.

This tells us - this is a Google Nest and Google home mini issue! Not a network issue.

It's high time that tech companies stopped always blaming the customers. We are a capitalistic society which means money is more important than human life. SAD.  Tech companies - the Big G, continue to sell and profit from these devices while NOT solving issues and it's eventually going to come back around and bite them in the hooha if you know what I mean.

I will return to my Google Home devices when I see that Google has settled these issues. And, I will know because we still have two of these downstairs that continue to glitch and have problems.

I think a lot of people are experiencing this. I am also. Also experiencing my 4 speakers randomly saying this on their own without speaking into them.  Also having a problem with the home app saying a speaker is not playing when it is, not allowing me to adjust the volume.

Thank you. I have decided to abandon the google home devices and ordered Amazon echo devices. I find Alexa responds so much faster that the google apps.
still sucks that google can’t fix their **bleep**.

Hi folks,

Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community.

Docjacksonx, we're sad to see you go. We'll definitely take this as feedback, and we'll ensure that we learn from it to be able to deliver a better experience in the future.

GAR2, a few questions: what Nest speakers do you own? When did your concerns begin? Were there any recent changes or updates to your setup? Also, what steps have you taken so far?

I look forward to your response.

Regards,

Juni

Hi folks,

Got it. Could you try to reboot your Wi-Fi router, and once the network is back up, do the same thing to your Nest speaker. Once everything is back on observe if it will make a difference. Performing the factory reset might also help.

Let me know how it goes.

Juni

For me, we had already purchased a brand new router - top of the line. We have a new cable modem. and we have had Spectrum troubleshooting to ensure there are no issues in our connection.

I had rebooted everything, I even did a factory reset on the nest minis to no avail. This is a software issue not a connection issue. I am not surprised that it's always blamed on the end user. We're just too stupid to understand what we're doing. We will always have to just reboot everything and factory reset everything. then what? Will someone at Google FINALLY admit they are the problem? and only THEY can solve the issues? There are countless people having these issues. Strange that every other iOT devices on my network function FANTASTIC yet the nest devices are full of glitches.

i have far too many years in networking experience, internet experience, coding, computers, etc. I don't want to hear one more person tell me to reboot my entire house and factory reset my devices. That's hogwash!

Thank you docjackson. I am in total agreement.

I received an e-mail suggesting I reboot, etc., etc.

I am in agreement that Google needs to just be transparent about the problems with these devices. We are not idiots. Rebooting, re-installing and resetting are the first things most of us do when there is a problem. I even make sure my devices are upgraded. You guys at google don't give us enough credit. The days of asking us to do those things have pretty much passed. It is the norm now. And these problems are being written about on all of the software and tech websites.

Just stop thinking we will be happy with all of these "additions" and aesthetic changes and work on making google work. I am seriously thinking of switching phones. Will stay on android because I have the nests in my home. But at this point, that is where I stop for now. No more google devices until the glitches are cleared up. I will be looking into a new tablet about a year or so down the road most likely. At this point, I plan to stick with the brand I have if they put out a new one.  It connects fine with all of my devices.

With all of the tech giants laying people off, one of my first thoughts is are there enough people in various departments to deal with these problems?

Juni,

Ding that is very standard these days. I am sure we have all already done that. I have. We all know that is not going to solve the problem and that the problem is on google's end.

It was be nice if google just fessed up to the problems and gave us a real timeline as to when they are going to be fixed. I would gain back some of the respect for them I have lost over this.

Again, cut back on the changes, aesthetics, etc and fix the problems.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for trying that, and I am sorry that you are still experiencing it. Could you both provide your Nest speaker’s firmware version?

I look forward to your responses.

Thanks,

Juni

I have 2 Nest and 2 Audio speakers. All are the same version.

Cast firmware: 1.56.348702

Can you explain why you are asking us to check the firmware version?

I have been a Google Home user for a LONG time, we have 4 of these in the house and they're all doing the same things. Delays, glitches... and nothing is being done about it. I don't know if google is too concerned about BARD or other crap or not, but nothing is being done about the glitches and failed responses from theser devices. Google should dedicate a team to solving these problems instead of just saying See ya! That's pretty much how I feel when there are issues. And the problems are just getting worse. I believe this is a sign that Google is concentrating efforts other places and ignoring the Nest devices for the most part.

Last night we also had some issues. Downstairs, my wife uses a Pixel 7 and two google home devices. She tells it to turn on the TV and a specific channel/program and it usually complies. But.. last night... she lit up.. and did nothing else. THREE separate times she did this.  Once again, this is a Google issue that needs to be addressed by a team. Sadly, I don't think their "team" even get anywhere near these forums to understand what's happening. This is why, for my upstairs bedroom and home office, I switched to the Amazon Echo devices with great success. I have enough stress and the google home devices were causing me more stress.

I have now had all 4 of my speakers just light up with one light 3 times this week.  And to be honerst, I find it very odd that this started happening after joining this forum and responding to e-mails from google. If they are doing something to try to fix the problem, they should indicate it. But I have never had this happen with my speakers.

I had a quick power surge this morning and the dots showed back up. Now when I use assistant through the speakers, it performs the task but then says that I am not connected to wifi. I give up!

I completely understand.  I read a recent news article about the Big G's lack of action on the google home and nest devices and that rivals are now surpassing them in performance. I'm not certain what has happened at Google, but it's quite apparent that they are having issues and are NOT paying attention to customers. I truly prefer Google Smart Devices over my current system, but my current system works FLAWLESSLY every time with a MUCH faster response, is more configurable and no glitches!  I was even considering switching to a Google Pixel 7 like my wife - until all these glitches showed up. Now, I watch her struggle with ALL those google devices downstairs and the frustration - no thanks! This is one stressor in my life i have removed - google home.

I will just have to watch and see. My wife has two Google Nest minis, two Pixel's, an iPhone, a Chromebook, an iPad, a chromecast and google TV, and most of it is integrated. so as you can imagine the frustration every single day that she goes through with the glitch and not responding or not carrying out commands at all or partially carrying out commands. It's just such a big hassle.

If or when Google sloves these massive errors, I may  -  MAY -  consider going back. Until then, I'm SUPER SUPER satisfied with my current system. it's FLAWLESS and faster! better integration and the best part - no glitches!
