Home/Away Assistant Nest thermostat

I have a second generation Nest Thermostat which does not seem to be always switching to Away when nobody is at home. This is very wasteful of energy. Is there anything I can do or is it something to do with the sensors on the thermostat?

Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry for the delay and for the trouble this may have caused you. I'd like to help. To confirm, in what country are you located? 

 

Check out this guide:

 

  1. Make sure your Nest Thermostat is online. If the thermostat is offline, you can’t switch status. If your thermostat is offline, troubleshoot Wi-Fi connectivity issues first.
  2. Make sure location services are turned on for any contributing mobile devices.
  3. Check if there are multiple devices signed into your account.
    • Being signed into multiple devices at once can cause issues with Home/Away Assist behavior.
    • You should invite others to share access to the home with your own account in the app instead of sharing the same account.
    • After accepting the home invite, each home member can contribute their own phone’s location to Home/Away Assist to prevent unexpected behavior, like the thermostat going into Eco mode while someone’s still home.

Thank you. We don't rely on mobile devices. Normally it just switches to away when nobody is at home, presumably because the sensor picks up there is no activity. It has been working fine & it was working over the last week but then it stopped working again last night. There are no other devices on the account. The device is always online. It does not usually go into Eco mode when someone is at home. We are based in the UK.

Thanks for all the information provided. By any chance, in the Nest app, do you see any warning signs or errors in the Home/Away Assist section?

Sorry for the delay. No there are no warning signs or errors. It sometimes switches to Away sometimes it does not. I can't discern any pattern.

Thank you for your message. For Security reasons we just have the postcode which is the only field required. Hope this answers your question
