Issues with several homes

Johnsen

In Google Home I have registered my house I live in and a summer cottage. I have a Google Hub in both homes and also Philips Hue connected to Google Home. Things work fine, but if I am in the summer cottage, and I say turn on the lights in the living room, it can be the lights in my home that is turned on. I have also tried at home to say "Turn on the TV" and Google Hub responded with the name of the TV in the cottage. All devices are connected to a room in the home they belong to.

I would think that if a device in the cottage gets a message, that it should only control devices in the home that the device is connected to. I have had the two homes registered with 2 different Google accounts, but thought it would be smarter to invite my regular e-mail to the cottage home, so I could control both homes with the same account.

Does anybody have the same problems and maybe a solution for that problem?

Hey there Johnsen,

Sorry to hear about the issues that you're running into with your devices in different households, I totally get how confusing that might be and am happy to help.

I would double check that within the app, you have different households set up as it will only control the devices that are in the household that you are currently in within the app.

Use the same account -- set up everything on the 2nd home's network (make sure your handheld is on the same wifi of course), add rooms and such as you normally do. Smart devices not on the same network (meaning those in the house up Summer cottage) won't be available to you to control from the handheld through the Home app -- some things might be exceptions as they may work on your cell network. When you go back to the Summer Cottage, once you put your phone on the same network, everything will be as it was.

To save your sanity, I would name your rooms differently in the second Home, say Summer Cottage or even the city name...whatever helps you recognize that a particular light or appliance belongs to the different homes. Give a shout if you have questions or if we've left anything out that you think you might need.

Best regards,
