Currently, it is not possible to use a Google Home speaker as a device trigger for routines based on the "Away" presence detection. This is because Google Home speakers are not considered as presence detection devices.
However, you can use a workaround to achieve your desired outcome. Instead of using the "Away" routine, you can create a custom routine that is triggered by a specific voice command, such as "Hey Google, play music for my cats". In this routine, you can add an action to play the desired music on your Google Home speaker.
To create a custom routine, follow these steps:
- Open the Google Home app on your mobile device.
- Tap on your profile picture in the top right corner.
- Select "Assistant settings" and then "Routines".
- Tap the "+" icon to create a new routine.
- Give the routine a name and select "Add commands" to add the voice command trigger.
- Enter the voice command you want to use to trigger the routine, such as "Hey Google, play music for my cats".
- Select "Add action" and then "Music".
- Choose the music service you want to use, and select the music or playlist you want to play.
- Select "Add action" again, and then choose your Google Home speaker from the list of devices.
- Select "Save" to save the routine.
Once you have created the custom routine, you can trigger it by using the voice command you specified. This will play the selected music on your Google Home speaker, even if you are not physically present in the house.
While it may not be an ideal solution, this workaround should allow you to achieve your desired outcome until Google adds the functionality for Google Home speakers to be used as presence detection devices in routines.
