"Phantom" starter for Bedtime routine

Lohmatiy

I am currently having an issue with a starter for my bedtime routine. It used to have just a voice starter (like "hey google good night"). But then we went on vacation, so I added an automation to turn lights on to pretend we are home. I also added a STARTER to my Bedtime automation to start at a scheduled time (11:33pm).

Now,  it's been almost two months since we got back from vacation. As we returned, I deactivated the automat that turned the lights on and I DELETED the starter scheduled starter from the Bedtime routine.

The PROBLEM - even though I deleted the starter, the routine still gets activated every night at 11:33pm... Giving me heart attack because the light suddenly turns off and a weird voice tells me my schedule for tomorrow in total darkness.

QUESTION - how do I fix my Bedtime routine? This is pretty much the only routine I use on a regular basis and it would be a shame to loose it.

I see. It sounds like you have a "phantom" starter in your Bedtime routine that is causing it to activate even though you have deleted it. Here are a few things you can try to fix this:

  1. Clear the Google Home app cache and data. To do this, open your phone's Settings app, go to Apps & notifications, and tap Google Home. Then, tap Storage & cache and tap Clear cache and Clear data.
  2. Recreate the Bedtime routine. To do this, open the Google Home app, tap Automations, and then tap Bedtime. Tap the three dots in the top right corner and select Edit. Then, delete all of the starters and actions in the routine. Once the routine is empty, tap Save.
  3. Contact Google Support. If you have tried the above steps and your Bedtime routine is still not working properly, you can contact Google Support for help.

Here are the steps on how to recreate the Bedtime routine:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap the three lines in the top left corner of the screen.
  3. Select "Settings."
  4. Tap "Routines."
  5. Tap the "+" button in the top right corner of the screen.
  6. Select "Bedtime."
  7. Give your routine a name.
  8. Add the actions you want to include in your routine.
  9. Tap "Save."

Once you have recreated the Bedtime routine, it should no longer be activated at 11:33 PM.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

Hi folks,

Thanks for the help here, MsDrasby

Lohmatiy, thanks for reaching out. That certainly hasn’t been easy for you. Let’s check out what’s going on. A few questions: are you using Android or iOS? Is the Google Home app updated? Do you have another account or home member added in the Google Home app that might have added this trigger too? You can try to add the specific time trigger again, then force close and reopen the Google Home app and delete it once more. Observe if it makes a difference.

Keep me posted.

Regards,

Juni
