Change of router

I've got a new router and need to change the WiFi settings on my 3  Nest smoke detectors.  I've managed to do one but the other 2 just keep saying "trying to connect" then eventually give up and say "try again?".  I've tried connecting using both the old router and new router.

Does the one I've done "talk" to the other 2 and they take on the new settings or do I need to persevere and change all 3?

Thanks

Hi @Lornaburg,

No, unfortunately, Nest smoke detectors don't automatically share Wi-Fi settings with each other. You'll need to persevere and change the Wi-Fi settings on all 3 Nest smoke detectors individually. Here are some tips that might help with the remaining two:

  • Double-check Wi-Fi Details: Ensure you're entering the correct new Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and password for the two remaining detectors. A typo can cause connection issues.

  • Restart Nest Protect and Router: Try turning off the Nest Protect and your router for 30 seconds, then power them back on one at a time (router first, then Nest Protect). This can sometimes help with network connection issues.

  • Reset Nest Protect (if needed): If restarting doesn't work, consider resetting the Nest Protect as a last resort. Resetting will erase all current settings, including Wi-Fi information. You'll need to go through the setup process again using the Nest app on your phone. Refer to the Nest app or Nest support for specific reset instructions for your Nest Protect model.

Here are some resources that might be helpful:

Remember, since these smoke detectors are crucial for safety, prioritize a working connection. If you continue to face issues after these steps, it's recommended to contact our Nest support for further assistance.

Best,

Brandon.

  • Thank you. In the end I had to take the detectors of the ceiling and reset them. I had to take them down, no easy task, because the code to connect them is on the back, out of sight. All sorted now but not a simple job.
