Nest Protect: Can't add device

jsassoon
Community Member

I'm an iOS user with a house full of Nest/Google devices (doorbell, thermostat, wifi mesh network, camera, protect smoke detectors)

I originally had a gen 1 Nest Protect which used to be connected and then one day went offline, so I tried to reconnect and go error code P0090(0.80) and I went through all of the steps in the help center and still no luck reconnecting (quit app, reset the device, removed doorbell, etc..).

I just bought a gen2 Nest Protect thinking it might just be time to upgrade and have the same issue with the Gen2 - unable to connect and went through all of the same troubleshooting and advanced troubleshooting steps.

Any tips/ideas appreciated, I've tried everything and still no luck up to this point.

I’m facing the same issue. I am trying to add two that we have at home.

If you have other Nest products installed, check out this thread's comment by @BoulderJ!  I was having a conflict with the Nest Doorbell and it solved my problem!

Hi folks,

Thanks for posting here in the Community forum, and I'm sorry to hear about the situation. Let me take a look at this for you.

@jsassoon, thanks for the information, and I thank you for being ahead of the troubleshooting steps. Since resetting the Nest Protect didn't solved the problem, check this article and follow the advanced troubleshooting steps.

@Vick79, please try the following steps below to troubleshoot the same situation.

  1. Reset the joining device to default.
  2. Restart the modem and router.
  3. Move all devices being used for pairing closer to the router.
  4. Check the network settings.

I'll look forward to your responses.

I appreciate your help, @Kowl

Best,

Zoe

Tried all of the additional suggestions and advanced troubleshooting and still no luck. I created a separate home for the nest protects based on some other threads I've read and that's working, not ideal, but at least I can see them in the app now.

It isn't really resolved, but it's fine. I still have to have 2 separate homes which isn't ideal and feels broken to have to go between 2 homes to see the devices for one home.
