Nest protect no notifications

Tangoe
Community Member

I have 3 nest protects setup in my house, they all respond to the app sound check etc and also all have their status' however, my wife set them off today whilst i was out and i did not receive any form of notification. When i gpt back i reset them all and added them via the app. I disconnected the power to one of them expecting an error notification on my phone but nothing, unless i open the app where it shows as offline. I specifically purchased these so i would get notifications about fire/co on my phone.

I wanted to stop by and see how I could help.

Thanks for looking into this, @JillG.

@Tangoe, I appreciate you reaching out about your Nest Protects that didn't send any notifications. I'd be happy to take a look at this for you.

To make sure that they are connected, please try pushing the buttons once and let me know their responses.

Hi Markjosephp.

Each one blinks a blue light and says

"Ready, (location), press to test"

Then the blue light spirals

Thanks.

Hi there,

I'm sorry for the late response, and thanks for the update. It appears that their status is okay. Please open the Google Home app and go to settings, then tap the notification you want to update. For the Nest app, go to Settings and select your Nest Protects to ensure that notifications are enabled.

Please take a look at this article and let me know if that helps.

Regards,
Mark

Hey Ricky,

Got it. I wanted to ensure that everything was covered here. Are they still going offline, and are there still no reports or notifications showing on your phone?

Thanks,

Mark

Hi folks,

I wanted to stop by and see how I could help.

@Tangoe, thanks for the follow-up information, and I appreciate you following the steps given above. Please make sure that notifications aren't blocked in your phone's or tablet's settings. Also, try another phone or tablet to check if the notification will work from there. You can do all of that by following this guide

I appreciate your help, @JillG and Mark.

Hello there Tangoe,

Thanks for getting back to us. No pressure! Please keep us in the loop by trying the notification on other devices.

Mark

Hi All,

Right, checked it all on my wifes phone and she doesn't receive notifications either. The protects dont seem to display in Google home if that makes a difference? Whenever i try to set them up in home i am taken straight to the nest app. If i check partner integrations in home there are no devices. If i try to change anything in the nest notification settings i am only presented with the option of "sound check" which i have off as this will distress my dogs. Is there a straight forward reason why home and nest need to both be set up or is this just crappy integration?

Thanks all for your help.

Hey folks ,

@Tangoe, thanks for getting back to us. Nest Protects can only be set up and controlled remotely with the Nest app. Also, it can only be connected with a 2.4GHz bandwidth. Have you tried doing a safety checkup? Could you try reinstalling your Nest app?

Give these steps a try:

If you have at least one 2nd gen Nest Protect in your home, you
can run a Safety Checkup with the Nest app.

1. Sign into your account in the app.

2. Select Nest Protect on the home screen.

3. Tap Checkup at the bottom of the screen.

Looking forward to your response.

I appreciate the help, JillG, Jenelyn, Zoe and Mark.

Regards,

Emerson

Hi Emerson,

I have my Wifi locked to 2.4 anyway so thats not causing any issues. I ran a safety check and that came back "Everything is fine".

I have removed and reinstalled my nest app, factory reset all protects and re-installed them via the nest app. "Everything is fine".

Is there a way of testing the notifications without removing the power or burning something?

Thanks, Ricky.
