Google Home app won't schedule thermostat -- must use Nest app!

BBE_Corvallis

I just spent 45 minutes following the instructions in Google Home trying to reschedule my Nest thermostat (the original one).  The instructions say to open the Google Home app, select Thermostat, and then tap Schedule -- but there is no Schedule!

I finally figured out that the thermostat must be controlled by the Nest app, a totally separate program that must be downloaded.  Works fine once you know it exists.  Baffles me why Google doesn't mention this in the Nest app itself and the instructions all over the web.

This is definitely an area of confusion for sure. Here's the steps you're looking for:

Temperature schedules for the Nest Learning Thermostat - Google Nest Help

This doesn't work as your linked document instructs.  As BBE_Corvallis reports above, there is no Schedule option on the Google Home app. Instead, you must click on the Nest icon on the top of the thermostat's screen which takes you to the old Nest app scheduling screen. I could really use some clarification on this as we are preparing to install a boat load of Nest smoke detectors that will need to be linked to Google Home and I would like to be sure we have the thermostats set up correctly first. Thanks

Hi folks,

Thanks for reaching out to us and we appreciate your time in providing the Community your insights in solving this particular Nest Thermostat issue — it's a big help. I'll be locking this thread if we won't hear back from you again in 24 hours. Should that happen, feel free to create a new one if you have more questions or have other concerns in the future.

I appreciate your help, @David_K and Jake.

Best,

Zoe

You've heard some serious complaints from customers, accompanied by suggestions on how to fix the problem and increase customer satisfaction.  Apparent action from Google: give thanks and lock the thread.  How about something more concrete, like filing a request for resolution with the development team?

Thank you.  The differentiation between "Home" and "Nest" is unnecessary and very confusing.  It's also fixed very easily if Google chooses to do so!

Hey there,

I wanted to check in and see if you are still in need of any help. Please let me know, as I would be happy to assist, and answer any questions you may have.

Best regards,
Jake

Thank you, but no further help needed, other than for Google to revise both Home and Nest documentation (including app help files and screen displays) to reflect the rather unnatural separation I described, or better yet, to revise the Home app to include the scheduling functionality in the Next app.

My posting was a public service announcement, not a request for help.
