Nest 3rd Gen Thermostat - No hot water boost in Google Home... WTF

siena959

We have a Nest 3rd Gen thermostat which controls out hot water as well as home heating , with the Nest app it gives us the option to give that hot water a 30 minute boost.. as we're all now being herded into the Google Home app, just like most of the useful security camera features (scheduling) , this boost feature seems to have gone AWOL in the Google Home app. Now this boost function is really useful when you have a large household.... please tell me this function is there somewhere and I just haven't found it!

Hi @TudorL
This is not feedback or a feature request, the feature was there in the Nest app, but is not in google home. I know the US market doesn't have hot water or boilers the same as the UK, but at least Nest realised (clearly as an afterthought based on the janky implementation) that the UK market needs to control hot water heating. With nest being sunset later this year what am I meant to do when I need to control my hot water, if the google home app doesn't support it? Will google be issuing refunds for my 3 nest thermostats when they become useless as they don't provide the functionality I bought them to do anymore?

That’s a pretty poor response given the feedback here. You haven’t even indicated if it is being considered, on a roadmap, is in someone’s backlog or authentically closed out this issue if there is no intention to develop the capability. If there are technical blockers then you could be transparent about these. To respond and effectively say nothing is poor service - you have an opportunity to rectify this by perhaps investigating what the plan is and sharing more detail please.

This isn't a nice to have, it is an essential requirement, how else can we get hot water.

Dear @TudorL.

I can imagine a bunch of guys at Google Europe HQ in Dublin Ireland (where I live) sitting around a screen saying “hey look what’s just come in from @mcinnes01 about the  Nest thermostat. That’s really good! He makes great points! Let’s give it “Best Answer” and post to all others on the thread. Then bin it, since we are fed up with the people on this thread making all these points over and over again four the last four years.  Have they not got the message that we don’t intend to do anything to help UK/European users?

And for you TudorL. - if you read anything in the thread you replied to, in your position as “Community Specialist” haha, you could not possibly have posted a message which so clearly displayed your ignorance of the topic.

Hello @icsurgeon @mcinnes01 @welshdragon ,

I'm so sorry for any inconvenience caused by this but at the moment, the Hot water function is visible only in the Nest app. I'm so sorry if the message seemed ignorant but rest assured I'll take your feedback and send it to the appropriate department.

This needs to be added back in as a priority. Basic feature has been removed especially as nest app disappearing.

Hi there, thanks for reaching out! The boost for the hot water isn't a feature that is available in Google Home App. However you can find this feature and more in the Nest App.

Sorry to say @LarisaL LarisaL - but that must be the most useless and generic answer ever. The fact that this feature is missing is the exact reason what people are demanding on this Thread... But these type of responses is exactly what drives people away from Google/Nest

Yes exactly. If you'd care to read the entire thread this is what everyone is annoyed that has been removed. Again especially as the Nest App is about to go bye bye! Minus 1 point for you.

I do understand your concern, but you don't have to worry, the Nest App is not going to be shut down. This refers to the "Works with Nest" feature that allows products from other brands to communicate with the Nest products, such as Philips Hue light bulbs and so on. The "Works with Nest" integration is going to be disabled, but your current Nest products will not be affected whatsoever.

If you want to leave a feedback regarding the boost option in Google Home App, you can do it by accessing this link.

This is all great... But this feature was there and has been removed for some reason.

It's not like even from a software quality point of view retaining it would have been an issue.

I am not aware of that feature being enabled and then removed from the Google Home app or of the Nest app ending.

Rest assured that our colleagues in engineering are doing their best to constantly improve both the software and the hardware of the products. If anything should come up, the feature will most likely be carried over, no worries. For now you can use the Nest app for the hot water control and keep an eye out on our official channels for any further updates.

Hi, just wanted to check in. Do you have any other question I can try and assist with?

I think you might have misunderstood the problem here.

The feature was there in the Nest app, but is not there in the Google Home app. It's also missing in the Google API and in the Google Assistant.

It's a very basic feature, and I'm sure the Google engineers just forgot this. If somebody could add this to their TODO list, I'm sure it would be fixed in a couple of days.

What's frustrating is that there is no way to do that. From any channel, all we get is automated or semi-automated answers like yours, from people that just quickly overlook the question but won't actually do anything.

Thanks for clarifying. To my knowledge, as you mentioned, the option has not yet been available in the Google Home app. It is only available in the Nest app.

I understand and see your point but I am not able to implement any feature myself and neither can any of my colleagues here. We make sure to log any feedback provided but it is up to our colleagues in engineering and other departments on what features get implemented and when.

If I could I would give you more details on this but this is all the information available at the moment. I do thank you for all the feedback provided and rest assured should there be any updates on this we'll let everyone know.
