Nest App seems connected to the Nest E Thermostat but can't see thermostat in Next app

Ellie222

My Nest App was happily connected to my Nest E Thermostat for three years. Last night there was a storm with downed power lines. Since that time, I've tried EVERYTHING, and have not been able to see my thermostat on the Nest app. The thermostat still works, but even it does not look right when I try to follow some of the instructions to connect with the app.  I want to try to reset the app but not cannot find a link to let me do that 😞  I need help and now, please.

Hi Ellie222,

Thanks for the response. If you're logged in to the Nest App, it's possible that it's not paired to your account. You can click on this link to learn about pairing your Nest Thermostat to the app.

Thanks,

Edward

And I can't find the entry key for my thermostat, despite following instructions I found online.

Are you sure the nest is connected to the wifi in the house?

It will still work if offline and control the system but you wont see it in the app.

Go to the settings on the nest and see if its connected to the internet. If not try to manually reconnect to wifi.

Last resort is to do a nest reset of the nest and set it up all over like when it was brand new.

If it still wont work properly you might have fried it when the storm went thru and a power surge may have damaged the nest.

Your local utility company gas and electric probably has a rebate deal for nests if you need a new one.

Thank you, EdwardT, for checking with me. I won't be able to get back to all this with the Nest app difficulty until tomorrow p.m. sometime. I will let you and Houptee know how it goes from here.

Thanks again!

To Houptee and EdwardT:
I've had a chance now to check on my Nest app again. The thermostat is working. I don't see how I can determine from looking at the app settings if the app is connected; but I don't think it is since I can't do anything from a screen that only shows "Home" and "Away" and does nothing else. I looked at all the app settings and found nothing there that shows anything about a wireless connection. When following instructions from Houptee, I get hung up trying to find the Entry key on the thermostat itself. Though I will try to scan the code on the back of the dial again later today. I did try that the other day, but it did no good.

Hi Ellie222,

Thanks for the update. If you're not seeing the Nest Thermostat on the app, it's possible that it's not connected or it's connected to a different account. Could you check if the account that is logged in on your Nest App is correct?

Thanks,

Edward

EdwardT, would you tell me how to do that, please? Is it the webpage that asks if a particular email address is the one connected? If yes, do I upload the answer with the upward-facing arrow?

Also, my password on the associated email account has changed.

I think that my Nest app is now logged into my Google account. When I hit Settings on the actual thermostat, the only settings I can see to adjust on it are Schedule. I try to follow Houptee's instructions but get hung up trying to find Entry Key.

I meant I think I'm logged into Nest with Google.

So I can't find the Nest App screen on my dial that would allow me to find the Entry key, which might be what I need to make the app work properly?

EdwardT, I am almost there! I followed the link in your last post, and I am trying to enter my network password. The problem is that after I enter numerals, I cannot switch back to the letters keyboard. How do I do this? I've been trying to find a solution online to no avail.

EdwardT, I finally got everything finished up and connected. I have access to my thermostat in the Nest app now. That last link helped me a lot! Thank you for your help.
