Nest Thermostat outer ring not functioning

The outer ring on Nest thermostat generation 2 has stopped working. It goes round but does not change temperature or move through settings etc. Thermostat still operates fully from the app.
 I have tried a reset and charging battery but didn’t fix.

I appreciate that you've tried to find a fix. To be sure, could you please tell us how you do the reset if the outer ring won't respond? Also, please try restarting it by pressing and holding the thermostat display for at least 10 seconds until it shuts down to refresh. Wait a few seconds until it gets ready, then try navigating it again. ,

To be clear on the reset, I may have used wrong terminology (reset). What I had done was what you are suggesting, that is “restarting” by holding the whole thermostat down for 10 seconds. I tried this a few times with no change to the problem. I have just tried restarting again but again the outer ring still does not function.
