Nest home away app won’t increase heat and heater is blowing 24 hours a day

Hi have been checking  my nest as we’ve been away - last several days as I’ve asked the app to raise the temperature - it hasn’t and it shows the heater is on 24 hours. Before I get a heating guy in - wanted to see if there are any troubleshooting methods to restart the system from afar. Thanks

Hi diannhamilton,

Uh-oh! If you're experiencing issues with your Nest Thermostat not raising the temperature as requested and showing the heater as continuously running, While it is not possible to troubleshoot a Nest Thermostat remotely, here are a few things you can do once you come back from where the thermostat is:

  1. Ensure that your Nest Thermostat is connected to Wi-Fi and has a stable internet connection. Poor or intermittent connectivity can result in communication issues between the thermostat and the Nest servers.
  2. Restart your Nest Thermostat. To do this, go to the thermostat settings and look for an option of reset/restart. This can help refresh the thermostat's software and potentially resolve any temporary issues.
  3. Double-check the thermostat's schedule and settings in the Nest app. Ensure that the desired temperature settings and schedule are correctly configured. Verify that there are no conflicting settings or adjustments that may be preventing the thermostat from raising the temperature as requested.
  4. Ensure that your Nest Thermostat is running the latest firmware version available. Occasionally, firmware updates can address software bugs and improve the thermostat's performance. You can check for updates in the Nest app under the thermostat's settings.
  5. If you have access to the HVAC system's power supply, you can try power cycling it remotely. Switch off the power to the system for a few minutes, then turn it back on. This can help reset the system and potentially resolve any issues with the heating equipment.

Please note that remote troubleshooting has limitations, and some issues may require on-site assistance from an HVAC professional. If the problem persists or if you have concerns about the safety or functionality of your heating system, it's advisable to consult with a qualified heating technician.

Let us know if that helps.

Best,

Zoe
