Google Nest Mesh with Virgin 5 Hub speed issues

I have the Google Nest WiFi connected to a virgin media hub 5 in modem mode. It should be a 1 GB service.

When I tested speeds of the new Virgin Hub 5 in router mode, I am getting 980MB WiFi  download speed.

But when Google Nest is connected in router mode (via a cat 6 cable). I can only max this out at 550MB.

I have tried lots of different tweaks but nothing seems to work.

Don’t want to but seriously considering looking at other WiFi 6 mesh systems outside of Google.

Any help would be much appreciated

Cat6 cables are much stiffer than Cat5 or Cat5e ethernet cables, and this could lead to some of the pins making insufficient contact to enable you to get the full speed. I'd suggest trying a Cat5e cable between your Virgin Media Hub and Nest Wifi as a test.

Thanks for responding @David_K   Have swapped the cat 6 for cat 5 and the speed has actually dropped by around 50MBs which is what I was expecting to happen. Would changing this out for a cat 8 cable help?

But still no where near my 1GB speed I’m paying for.

No Cat8 is very much overkill for what you need here.

Are you using multiple Wifi points? I'd initially just test with the Virgin hub and 1 Wifi point.

I'm assuming you've tried factory resetting the Wifi point?
