PC does not connect to closest point

I have a Nest Wifi router with a single point. My router is upstairs and my point is downstairs next to my PC. Every day when starting my PC my internet speeds would be abysmal whereas my other devices would have stable connections.

I have tried troublershooters, restarting the network through the app, prioritizing my PC in the app, swapped location of router and point, and absolutely nothing works except for physically unplugging the router and plugging it back in. This MUST be done LITERALLY every time the PC is put to sleep or turned off and is an absolutely unacceptable standard to expect.

It is obvious the PC is picking the worst of the two options to connect to and windows wifi protocol will not allow to select specific point connections and the Google WiFi app is devoid of any solution itself.

If there is not a solution to this issue than this router is essentially broken and I will need to move on from this frustrating experience.

Hello @PorscheRadish

WiFi client devices (like your PC) decide which access point to connect to, and when to switch between them. Nest WiFi does provide devices with some extra information that can help them make better decisions, but not all client devices support the standards used for this, and they are on their own. Some do a better job than others.

All of that said, I am wondering if there may be another issue at play here. How close is your PC to the access point? It is possible to be "too close". If they are 3 feet apart or less, I would try moving the access point further away – at least 6 feet. Then disable and re-enable the WiFi on your PC to see if it connects to the nearby access point.

Hey folks,

Thanks for lending a hand, @MichaelP and @RachelGomez123.
