Poor Wifi Speeds.

I've tried reading through the various forum and reddit threads related to this, but i struggle to find any kind of straightforward answer. Any help or troubleshooting advice is appreciated. Essentially my issue is that I pay for 800/20mpbs internet service but get nowhere near that on my actual devices.

A speed test on the Google Home app shows 800/20 consistently, if not higher. However, at any of my connected devices I get fluctuating results maxing out around 130/20mbps. Why is the wifi speed so much slower?

My home is 1,600sf ranch plus an 600sf basement. My setup is an Arris s33 modem, connected via WAN to the primary Google Wifi router. The other two routers are connected via wifi for the moment though I would like to hardwire them. I dont believe that is the issue though as i get faster speeds further from the main router, and on a test just temporarily hardwiring one of the remote pucks i did not see a difference, if anything it made the wifi worse. My main router is in our primary living room on one end of the home, the first remote puck is about 25ft away within eyesight of the main, the second puck is in the basement almost directly under the main. From moving them around this seems to provide the most consistent overall coverage in the house.

I just upgraded my older modem that maxed out at 400mbps upload to the arris s33. I now see better speeds in the google home app which is what i expected, but my wifi (ookla tests at devices) remains the same.

Same here, I have 1Gmpbs fiber plan from ISP and I constantly get 970+/950+ mbps speed test result from Google Home app, which I believe is reflecting the data transmission speed received from modem. However, as OP mentioned above, if I test the speed on my phone or laptop via 3rd party website, I only got around 90mbps. Considering I have the mesh system with 3 Nest Wifi Pro units all hardwire backhauled, I cannot think of any other reasons but either hardware defects or firmware problems.

Hi Folks,

Thank you for posting. I'm sorry that your Wi-Fi isn't as fast as expected. helps here.

There are a few articles you can check: first, troubleshooting slow Wi-Fi; and second, if the previous link didn't work, try to reboot your modem following the instructions:

  1. Unplug the power cable from the modem.
  2. Wait 2 minutes.
  3. Reconnect the power cable to the modem.
  4. Wait for the modem to boot up and the internet light to turn green, then check if your connection speed has improved.

Let me know if you need more assistance.

Regards,

Byron
