Google Nest x Yale Lock draining batteries

I have had this lock for around 2 years and it's worked well to this point. However in December it started to chew through batteries at an alarming rate (using up new alkalines every three days). I did a factory reset on the lock and re-added it to my Nest account (and Google Home), but no change. The lock is only about 6 feet from the Nest Connect and has worked perfectly until now.

I see others have had this issue, but have not seen any resolution. Has anyone figured this out?

Update: I called Yale tech support and they had no response other than to offer me a 20% discount on a replacement. When my Nest thermostat had the wifi not connecting error, Google replaced them for free, even if out of warranty. This feels like a defect in the product that Yale is not willing to stand behind.

Hi there,

I apologize for my late response and thank you for all of your patience while waiting for a reply. I can definitely understand how frustrating your situation must be, but I wanted to make sure that your issue was addressed. Have you tried to Factory Reset your device? I am afraid that Nest does not issue replacements for Yale locks.

Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Best Regards,

Brad.

Nope - no help from Yale. There are many reviews on various online stores that report the draining battery problem - suggestions are it has to do with excessive wifi polling or something like that. In any event, frustrating to have to replace a $280 lock after only 2.5 years. I would not buy again without an extended warranty (which Google does not offer)

p.s. As I indicated in my original post I did a factory reset.
