Assign a nest Mini to a new Google account

When I got my Google nest Mini I set it up to a Google account through an employer. I no longer have that account and want to assign the nest Mini toy new personal Google account. 

I have tried the "find device" on Google home in the app and it does not recognize the nest Mini. 

I have reset the nest Mini multiple times, it just says to connect through Google home. 

It just will not recognize the new Google account. 

How can I reset to factory settings or is there another way to may Google home recognize the device? 

Will I need to buy a new one? 

I've spent many many hours trying to set this up there had to be a way to assign it to a new Google account.

After resetting it, as linked above, it is no longer associated with any account and should let you set it up with a new account.
