Can no longer cast to speakers

Both my speakers are online, I can speak to them, but I cannot cast to them from Android or Mac. This started happening about a week ago. This has affected all my Nest Audio, and Max, but not the Mini's nor Chromecast. I am sad to see these speakers slowly stop functioning—first groups volume support was lost, now cannot cast remotely.

Hi @mikomeow

It's frustrating that casting to your Nest Audio and Nest Hub Max has stopped working. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot the issue:

Basic Checks:

  • Same Wi-Fi Network: Double-check that both your Android device/Mac and the Nest speakers are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. This is a common cause for casting issues.

  • Restart Devices: Reboot your phone/Mac, the Nest speakers, and your Wi-Fi router. Sometimes a simple restart can fix temporary glitches.

App and Permissions:

  • Google Home App: Make sure you have the latest version of the Google Home app installed on your phone. Outdated apps can sometimes cause compatibility problems.

  • Microphone Permission: On your Android device, ensure the Google Play Services app has microphone permission enabled. Casting can be affected if this permission is disabled.

Casting Feature:

  • Android Version Compatibility: Casting audio to Nest devices from Android requires Android 9.0 or later. Verify your phone meets this requirement.

  • Power Saving Mode: Disable power saving mode on your phone. Limited processing power can hinder casting functionality.

Advanced Troubleshooting:

  • Factory Reset: If the above steps don't work, consider a factory reset of your Nest speakers. This will erase all settings and may resolve the issue, but you'll need to set them up again.

  • Separate Wi-Fi Band: If you have a dual-band router, try connecting the Nest speakers to the 2.4 GHz band instead of 5 GHz. Some devices have better stability on the 2.4 GHz band.

By following these steps, you should hopefully be able to resolve the casting issue with your Nest Audio and Nest Hub Max.

Best,

Brandon.

Thank you for your response!  I tried all the recommended things, minus the factory reset, or switching the network to another GHz band—so far, no luck. Gonna take a break, and try the other things later.

Will give that a go next.
