Cannot connect nest mini or google tv to google home

Ingoes
Community Member

Google home app on my Samsung Galaxy S21, Google TV on my Sony Bravia (brand new purchase 2 months ago) and brand new Nest Mini bought yesterday. WiFi is working, all three are connect, but they refuse to speak to each other. Nothing I try has worked, reset everything, keep getting messages like:

Could not communicate to your Nest mini

Unable to load, there could be a connection issue

I tried the Nest using my phone hotspot and it worked! But back to my home 5G Broadband and nothing. WiFi is worming - I can stream shows on my TV so I know that is not the issue. But something is putting wall between my devices. Help! At wits end!

Hey Ingoes,

I am sorry to hear about the trouble you are having. I wanted to jump in, and provide you with an article that has more details. Please let me know if that helps, or if you have any questions from here.

Best regards,

Jake

Thanks Jake - I did see that article and already tried every step several times. Finally I have managed to get the Nest connected to my phone, but everytime I say 'Hey Google' is says things like 'Sorry, try again in a few seconds', or 'There was a glitch'. It is just impossible. I am about to give up and return the nest to the store.

Hi Ingoes,

Thanks for the details. Have you tried to perform a complete reset to your Google Nest Mini to see if it would make any changes?

Let us know how it goes.

Hi Ingoes,

Thanks for trying. Could you check if all devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi frequency? I would suggest to try connecting it to 2.4GHz as it is the more reliable than 5GHz network.

Let me know if this would make any changes.

Princess

Ooh that's a bit beyond my capabilities - how do you do that? I can log on to my wifi router page and see those two frequencies and what is connect to which frequency, but no idea how to switch them between the two - any tips?

Hi Ingoes,

When you access the Wi-Fi settings of the phone, do you see the same Wi-Fi name with either 2.4 or 5GHz connection?

I did and nothing has worked. Thanks everyone for offering assistance. I have decided to change internet providers because I have now had apps start presenting playback issues on my Google TV including Prime and Tenplay in Australia and I think it is related to a patchy wifi connection, and probably also the issue with the Nest mini. I think I just need to refresh all my systems on a new wifi frequency and start again - so frustrating. Feel free to close the thread.

Thanks for updating us. Glad to know that it is already working.

Since this has been resolved, I'll go ahead and lock the thread now. Feel free to start a new one if you need assistance with your Google Nest speakers.
