Chromecast volume stopped auto-dipping when we say "okay Google"

We have a mini home nest speaker in the same room as the TV.

When we say "okay google" the Chromecast volume used to dip down so that the nest speaker could "hear us" now the TV stays loud and google starts replying to things it "hears" from the TV.

Why has this functionality been removed?

(All devices factory reset and updated and re-added to the home, still not working. Chromecast and Nests and home and all streaming services are linked with one single gmail account and voice recognition is on.)

HI @Jo_

I will ask the our community specialists if they know about any changes with that ducking feature.

Hi Jo_,

Thanks for posting and for being a step ahead of us.

I know how it feels when something isn’t working as it should, so let’s get this resolved. Currently this feature won’t work when you cast content in the following ways:

  1. If you cast music on a group of Cast devices.
  2. If you started to cast content on a TV or speaker using a mobile phone and not your voice.
  3. When you cast content on an Android TV device with fixed volume (Example: Nexus Player).
  4. When you cast content on a Chromecast built-in speaker or TV, or Android TV that runs with Chromecast firmware version older than 1.25. Learn how to check your firmware version.
  5. For TV shows and movies when playback is done at 5.1 surround sound.

Note: For Android TVs that run with firmware version older than 1.27, when this feature is on, you won’t be able to change the volume of the TV using your speaker or display ("Hey Google, set volume to 50% on <device name>"). To use voice commands, turn off the feature using the steps above.

Check this helpful link for more details,

Hope this helps.

Thanks,

Juni
