Disable Playback Sounds

Is there a way to disable playback sounds like on the Chromecast Audio?  I followed the guide at https://support.google.com/chromecast/answer/6290498?hl=en&co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid but there isn't an option to disable the playback sounds.

Here's a quick walkthrough on how to enable and disable playback (or output) devices in Windows.
1) Right click the sound icon in your system tray (or task tray)
2) Open sound settings.
3) Manage sound devices.
4) Click on the devices you'd like to enable or disable.

Hi xeroiv,

Thanks for posting and for being a step ahead of us.

I know how it feels when something isn’t working as it should, let’s get this resolved. Try to force close and reopen your Google Home app. You can also check if you need to update the app by going to the Playstore if it's an Android phone or App store for iPhone. Lastly you can uninstall and reinstall your Google Home app and check if this will make any difference.

Let me know how it goes.

Best,

Juni

Hi Juni,

I have tried your troubleshooting steps and was unable to find an option called Playback sounds within the audio settings on my google home mini (gen 1), google home (gen 1), or nest home hub.  Is this a feature that is only available on the chromecast audio devices?  If not, will it be made available on the existing lineup of other google home devices in the future.

thanks,

xeroiv

Hi there,

Thanks for the details. Yes, Playback sounds feature is only for Chromecast audio, on the other hand, you can enable and disable the Play start sound and Play end sound on your Nest speakers and display by checking the steps below.

Hear a brief sound at the start and/or end of the request

  1. Make sure the mobile device is linked to the same account as the Google Nest or Home device.
  2. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  3. In Home View and then tap the device card of the speaker or display.
  4. At the top-right, tap Settings Settings and then Accessibility .
  5. If the customer wants their device to play a sound only after they say "Ok or Hey, Google", turn on the toggle On next to Play start sound and leave the Play end sound slider off Off.
  6. If the customer wants their device to play a sound after they say "Ok or Hey, Google" and after the Assistant stops to listen, turn on the toggle On next to Play start sound and Play end sound On.

Keep me posted.

Thanks,

Juni

Hi Juni,

The start sound and end sound from the accessibility menu are not what I am trying to disable.  I utilize the Chromecast API to send a notification to an audio group that I setup in the Google Home application.  If the google home device is idle, when the API first connects to the device it first plays a sound that a device has connected, much like the playback sounds that you get from the Chromecast Audio devices.

thanks,

xeroiv

Hi eroiv

I totally understand that this is a good feature to use with your Google Nest speakers and display  but, this feature is not yet available. I'd suggest you submit feedback about it, here's how.
