Google Mini Notifications

This morning, at 8am, I was awoken by my Google Mini beeping and alerts stating 'I am on my way home now', quickly followed  by 'I am home'. I have had the mini connected over a month and this is the first time it spoke without me saying Hey Google. I don't recall setting any routines recently but I checked this morning and many were select including the Commuting options. At first I thought it was a text being read by the mini and maybe it was my son stating he is on his way home. But it wasn't, plus again this is the first time the mini automatically spoke with no command asked first. I check Assistant history and see the commands/alerts and location shows correct. I have now turned off all Routines and automation as I don't need any. I did not hear any alert on my phone/smartwatch, just the Google Mini. I did recently install/uninstall an ad lock extention on my laptop and phone so was my system hacked?

Very strange. If it happens again, you could try a simple reboot either from within the Google Home app or by unplugging your Google Mini for a minute.

I turned off routines I don't remember setting in Google Home and Google Play. Still odd it announced I was on my way home, then a second later announced I'm home. It was 8am! I didn't see any option in Commute for entering a time for that Routine. Not sure if it wa just a tech glitch but I was slightly worried maybe my system was breached as I installed a 3rd party Adblocker the day before which I also removed from laptop and phone. Are there any safe free ad lockers that don't block legit content? I had to turn mine off and on for some websites.

Hi CKavanagh,

Apologies for the delay.

Have you had the chance to try the suggestions given by MplsCustomer and Sarcastic_Rick? If so, how was it?

It would help a lot if you could do a sequential reboot first:

  1. Unplug the power cord of your router, followed by your Nest speakers, then your smart devices.
  2. Plug them back in after 3 minutes.
  3. Restarting your phone might also help.

Sequential reboot helps your device refresh its settings and the connection between them.

Keep us posted.

Best,

Dan

You haven't heard from me because when I reply to the email it comes back on deliverable. I seem to have resolved the issue by ensuring that I turned off all of the routines. I guess I may have set it up by accident when I was playing with the phone

Thanks. I did turn off all routines. I don't use any. The Mini works fine otherwise. I basically only use it to turn on a lamp and play Spotify.

Prescence Sensing could have caused this little hiccup. Check your "Home" routine in the Goggle Home app to see if it has actions to announce when you are home.

Last month, my Samsung phone was performing an update at 3am, and apparently this system update took long enough for my Mini to believe I had left the house and then returned. I woke up at around 3:30am with the lights in the hallway and my nightstand lamp having automatically been turned on due to Prescence Sensing.

We were asleep! No sounds. I opened the Google Home app history and saw the commands at 8am but the times were not in the options. I also had an issue with my smartwatch clock alarm randomly ringing at 8 am one day last month and I never set an alarm! I am now a little freaked out because I recently installed and uninstalled a couple different adblockers. Unfortunately ads are out of control and the free adblockers are not great. LOL! Actually blocks legit content and information on some websites.
