Google Nest Audio "would you like a little more context?"

santillivince
Community Member

I'm on my second Nest Audio speaker after the first one unexpectantly bricked.  The issue I'm posting about is when I ask a question and get a reply it will ask me if I would like a little more context.  When I reply yes nothing happens.  This used to work of the box but has not worked for some time.  It used to reply with the same answer but now nothing?  What is the point of this?  I swear this is the buggiest device I've ever owned.  By the way I've searched Google for this and found nothing.  I'm hesitant to open a ticked for the because I feel it would be a waste of time.  Anyone else experience this?  I'm sure like most issues this was probably introduced by a buggy update and most likely will be fixed by one.  But this has been going on for quite a while.

It still hasn't been fixed.

Hey santillivince,

Thanks for the update. Could you try asking the same question on the Google Assistant app on your phone and see if it has the same behavior.

Keep us posted.

Cheers,

Muddi

Not sure what you mean.  My phone is not capable of this.

Muddi the "Community Specialist" asked these exact same questions in I believe the same order back a year ago with the other thread.

Cut and paste questions intended to occupy the customer's time.

I have the stopping in mid-sentence issue and the more context problem.
People who work at Google on these devices know about this problem obviously.

In the right world, pretending that users need to troubleshoot their own devices should come with hefty fines.

At a minimum acknowledge the problem as though you respect your customers.

Factory reset didn't fix the issue. I don't know what else to do, it sure is aggravating.

I'm sorry but this isn't a "mysterious" issue, it is a known bug that a large number of people are experiencing (including me). I have reported it through the feedback feature on my NestMini for months. There are other posts in other Google communities. Not a new thing. Really sad a feature that worked for years is magically buggy to such a large group of people - and not fixed months later. https://support.google.com/assistant/thread/193475543?hl=en

Hey RealtyPete,

I understand. It is best if you could send fresh feedback so the team will be able to check the crash logs on your device. By the way, I appreciate you sharing the link.

It's very aggravating, sad to hear that Google has let this issue go on for so long.

Sorry that I feel what way? I was replying to @RealtyPete. No need in being sorry.  I would imagine everyone on this thread and the other thread feel just as frustrated as I do. I've only been dealing with the issue for a couple of weeks, some have dealt with it for months.

This was the same "community specialist" that promised to contact the illusive "team" a year ago about the stopping in mid-sentence issue.
Then this and other community specialists dropped in and offered diversionary pretend remedies involving time-consuming resets, network changes, etc, stringing it along, wasting people's time, all with absolutely no information of value whatsoever.

If there's a Team on this, they're probably just a band poster on someone's wall.

Thank you for saying out loud what we're all thinking. I've never had an issue with any other internet company or even apps that took this long to fix. And asking if we want more context is a question I'm sure we all say YES to. So this issue should be at the top of the "team's" list.

SAME PROBLEM HERE! For us its been an issue for about 2-3 months or alteast when we noticed it first. It does not matter what question is asked, it will not provide more context like it used too. It does not matter if its a Mini, Nest, or BOSE speaker, they all do the same **bleep** thing. Do you want a little more context? YES YES YES!!! *then abrupt silence and speaker led goes out*

Same issue for me for about a month

Has anybody got their issue fixed yet?

StaceyJill

When we ask Google Home (minis and tall) a question, it answers and then asks us if we want "a little more context" we say yes and it turns off.  Same issue when it gives an answer then asks, "do you want to know more about...?" We say yes and it turns off.

I have been giving Feedback via speaker for three weeks.  Not getting fixed.

Same exact thing here.

If I ask it to repeat it's silent more-context response it repeats it's silence as opposed to saying that there's nothing to repeat or not understanding.

It's been happening for about 3 weeks for me.

Not sure if it's related to the stopping in mid-sentence problem, but my devices still have that issue too.

Both of these problems (the latter of which is 1+ year without a solution) also happen on the latest 7" "Smart display".

If I didn't have the stopping in mid-sentence issue, I'd be thinking that the failure to give more context was an intentional stunting after someone somewhere reported something unseemly that was spewed from their device in a more-context setting.

If company circumstances don't allow for a fix for legal or whatever reasons, customers should be informed of this rather than being instructed to jump through ridiculous time-consuming troubleshooting and reporting hoops.  It's Google's problem.  They used to work.

If "community specialists" aren't informed by the company of the real status of problems, then why is this board even affiliated with Google?

I'm sure devices in development will run laps around these assistants -- I'm looking forward to that.

In the meantime, customers should get the functionality that they paid for on the device that they bought.

Hey everyone,

Thanks for bringing this up.

We're sorry to hear that you have to experience this with your Google Nest speakers. Could someone list down what devices are affected on your end? If you have multiple Google Nest speakers that shows the same symptoms, kindly list down its cast firmware version? Lastly, can anyone send us a short video clip commanding your speakers so we can check on it further.

To check which firmware version you're on, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. Touch and hold your device's tile.
  3. Tap Settings and then Device information.
  4. Under "Technical information," check for Cast firmware: "X.XXX.XXXXX." If the device is on Fuchsia, check for System firmware version: "X.XXXXXXXX.X.XXXXXXX"

Looking forward to your responses.

Best,

Princess

I've beèn having this issue for weeks now on my Google Home speaker. I'm providing both the system and cast firmware versions. What's frustrating is that the Assistant is asking if you want more context, but when you say Yes, nothing happens. It's hard to capture because you don't know WHEN the Assistant will pose the question. This is the only feature I'm having a problem with.

System firmware version: 324896.

Cast firmware version: 1.56.324896.

My system firmware and cast firmware version numbers are different than yours.  We always do available updates...it's a universal Google problem.  This is busy work from Princess.

Agreed (unfortunately).

Dishonestly tasking customers to do something like this to throw them off while seeming to care is evidently an acceptable Google tech support maneuver.

They'll be back to mark the thread as solved eventually.

And it won't be.

😞

That's unfortunate. I'm wondering if they removed the feature.  It would not be the first time Google has removed features without letting customers know. (Anyone remember being able to know what TV show was playing by listening to the program, or pointing your camera at it? Can't remember which way, but that disappeared without notice.) If this feature is no longer working, then the Assistant shouldn't ask the question anymore.

Hey folks,

Chiming in, we appreciate all your efforts. All the information has been forwarded to the team, and we'll get back on this thread once I know more.

By the way, please list down a sample of commands wherein you normally experience the issue.

Cheers,

Muddi

Why isn't the team aware of problems without any public Community Information here? Google employees must not use their products?

1. Information stopping mid sentence.

2. When we are asked if we would like more context, more information about something, we say yes and it hangs up without continuing.

3. When it lets us know there is a reminder we ask what the reminder is and it takes ridiculous amount of time to pull up the reminder and it pulls up all reminders that it can find and not the one it's calling about. When we are asked if we would like more reminders, we say no and it keeps going.

4. We will randomly ask a question about the weather and it turns it into an alarm.

Hey StaceyJill,

To confirm, have you tried connecting your device to a different network to see if it still has the same behavior? Also, we are not able to reproduce the issue on our devices here that's why we are asking for a list of questions where users normally get the response.

Cheers,

Muddi

To answer this ridiculous question, YES on a different network it happens because you see how many people HERE in this site are complaining about the SAME issues with the same devices!

But I will tell you, our sons are on a different network at their home and the same thing is happening.

Hey everyone,

We appreciate your patience. Our team would like to get more samples of commands where you usually get or experience the issue. Please list down at least three commands as this will help us check what's going on with your devices.  Also, make sure to send fresh feedback once you experience the issue.

Thanks,

Like I've stated many times, the command I give is YES in reply to the assistant's question — "would you like more context?" But I have noticed since we've all been complaining, the assistant hasn't been asking me that question. Now, I get a pop up that covers my entire screen with more context. That's not going to work either. But lock this down, idc, I'm looking for a new assistant, this Google one says I do not have that info or I do not understand more times than it gives me the answer I need. I have to open Google and type my question into the search bar, and there's always an answer at the top and a dozen or more links with the answer. It used to not be like this, I've used Google for 12 years and never had a problem until a few months ago. For example, today I asked for info on the MSU mass shooting and the assistant had no information. Every news site, social media site and TV news was running the story but the assistant didn't have any information. I tried to ask about it in different ways ten different times and same reply. I told the assistant you are stressing me out, and she replied, oh it must be a good time to do something fun. No not a good time. Lol

Having an issue in my household across google nest (1st gen) and nest mini (2nd gen)

I’ve noticed over the last few weeks the assistant stops responding after it answers a question. It follows with “do you want a little more context” and then stops listening, regardless if I say yes or no.  It doesn’t do this if it asks “I found something similar” or follows up with a different question. It only happens after it asks if i would like more context.

I have rebooted all devices and even reset and reinstalled devices into my home. It’s frustrating to say the least, as it’s not functioning at full capability. I’m not sure what to do.

I know this is a bug with the google ai software itself and now left wondering when this will be fixed?

Hi sc99th,

Thanks for bringing this up.

We're sorry to hear that you have to experience this. Does this happen on all your Google Nest speakers set up on your network? Also, does it give you that response on all of the commands you've tried?

Since you've already performed a complete reset to your device, kindly provide the cast firmware version of your Google Nest speakers?

To check which firmware version you're on, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. Touch and hold your device's tile.
  3. Tap Settings and then Device information.
  4. Under "Technical information," check for Cast firmware: "X.XXX.XXXXX." If the device is on Fuchsia, check for System firmware version: "X.XXXXXXXX.X.XXXXXXX"

Looking forward to your response.

Please don't lock this thread until you check other posts with the same issue. I replied to another posts and provided the versions for my system and cast firmware for my Google Home speaker. This is also happening on my Google Nest device. It stopped working a few weeks ago and is very annoying.
