Google Nest Hub, Nest Mini and Google TV HD WiFi connection problem to my Asus ZenWiFi mesh router

My Google Nest Hub, Nest Mni and Google TV HD is having WiFi connection issue to my Asus ZenWiFi AX8 mesh router sometime mid 2023 after firmware update.

PS: My Asus ZenWiFi AX8 mesh router consists of a MAIN HUB and a NODE.

Since then Nest Hub and Mini when connected to main hub, the wallpaper never refresh, all voice assistance response error "Something went wrong, please try again later.",

As with Google TV HD, when connected to main hub I have to turn off and on WiFi within Google TV HD settings, manually select the SSID every time just to use it.

Strangely enough when I connect them to the node, there's no connection issue. Everything works fine. For now I have to bind their connection to the node, which is not ideal.

I recently just added a Google TV 4K and Xiaomi Smart Speaker (with Google Assistant build in), both of them works fine either connected to hub or node.

No other devices I own have this issue besides Google Nest Hub, Nest Mini and Google TV HD. Anyone experience the same issue?

Hi @Ti_Yam.,

You're right, there seems to be a compatibility issue between your Asus ZenWifi AX8 mesh router (specifically the main hub) and some of your Google Nest devices after a firmware update in mid-2023. Here's what you can do:

  1. Downgrade Asus ZenWifi AX8 Firmware (if possible): If feasible, consider downgrading the firmware on your Asus ZenWifi AX8 main hub to a version before the mid-2023 update that caused the issue. This might not be an option depending on Asus's update policy. Check their website for firmware versions and downgrade instructions.
  2. Separate SSID for 2.4 GHz Network: Some users found success by creating a separate SSID specifically for the 2.4 GHz band on their Asus router. Nest devices tend to perform better on the 2.4 GHz band. Consult your Asus router manual for instructions on creating separate SSIDs.

  3. Disable Mesh Networking Features: Temporarily try disabling mesh features like "fast roaming" or "band steering" on your Asus router. These features can sometimes cause connection issues with certain devices. Reauthorize your Nest devices after making this change.

  4. Factory Reset Nest Devices (Last Resort): If none of the above solutions work, consider factory resetting your Nest devices as a last resort. This will erase all settings and require you to reconfigure them. Make sure to back up any important data before proceeding.

So much trouble I might just get another Xiaomi Smart Speaker.
