The last 3 weeks my Nest Mini 2 have lost WiFi connection once a week, I need to reset to factory settings, remove it from my Google Home, and connect it again. then it works a week again. I have 2 more nest mini 2, in my house the are working without problems. I am also using Google WiFi, so there is perfect WiFi in the house. The only thing is one of the nest minis, it have been working for a long time, without any problems, this issue started 3 weeks ago.

Hi Jesper,

Disappointing to hear this is happening. I can share some entry troubleshooting steps to help. First, try and restart your internet router and your Google Nest Mini.

You detailed that you had to reconnect to your WiFi - was the device not staying associated with your account?
Regardless, attempt to connect your device temporarily very close to your WiFi point/router. This way, the problem can be isolated. This will let you know if it is a proximity or a device issue.

If these steps don't work, please reply 🙂

Hi,

I have tried to move the Nest Mini to the same room where I have a Google WiFi unit. Same problem. 2 days and it loses the WiFi connection. I think the problem is in the nest mini. Any suggestions?

Hi All,

Thank you for sharing your comments and feedback. I appreciate your patience at this time. I am sorry to hear that your devices are still encountering these issues. To give the team more information regarding this situation, could you please answer these questions?

First, which Google Nest device(s) is encountering this issue? Please list the model name and generation number of each device.

Network Connectivity Questions:

  1. How long did the device work properly before encountering connectivity issues?

  2. How did you discover that the network was having connectivity issues?

Did any of the devices give audible errors, such as:

  • “I can't reach the internet right now. Check your modem or router connection and try again.

  • “I can't connect to the Wi-Fi network. You might want to check the connection settings in the Google Home app”

  • Something else? (Please note the error message, or how the issue was discovered)

WiFi Setup Questions:

  1. What is your WiFi setup? (single router or multiple access points - how many?)

  2. What is the location of the affected device in relation to other WiFi Access Points/Routers? (please note distance, in same/different room, same/different floor, any major obstructions/interference like walls, floors, cabinets, appliances etc?)

  3. Did you change your WiFi setup recently?

    • If yes, was it was working fine before? What did you use before and what did you swap it to?

If you know any of this info, please provide it as well:

  • Router brand (make and model)

  • Router security, such as WEP, WPA, WPA2, etc

  • Router software version

  • What's the configuration of the network? Are you using a mesh network, WiFi repeaters etc?

The Google router is plugged in on my switch.... ground floor, 2. AP on 1. floor about 15-20meters apart, running mesh i guess.
I have tried the Google system in bridge mode too ... same happens.

All my «cabled» devices is online when the Wifi Internet connection via Google Nest is down.
My firewall is a pfSense…. «all open» fra LAN -> WAN
The Wan side of firewall is connected to my ISPs modem.

The last week has been fine, no issues! .... hope it stays like that.

Only a couple of hours, but problem exists from first day of use.

  2. How did you discover that the network was having connectivity issues?

I have two Google Nest Minis. Both keep intermittently disconnecting from the wifi and being unable to reconnect. If I power then off and then power them up again, they're able to reconnect and last about a day or less before it happens again.

I've tried factory resetting them. One is within fifteen feet of the router separated only by a wall, and the other is within five feet of the router with no separations. I've tried resetting the router. I've split the network into 5 ghz and 2.4 ghz. I have multiple other devices on the network that have had no problems, including two computers, a Sonos speaker, a TV, our cell phones, a laptop, and multiple smart plugs.

I see this has been an issue for a number of people, and that Google is aware (but I don't see any fix having been posted anywhere, despite a lot of these having been months or more ago). I see a number of people have posted not having issues after replacing the mini. Did I just get two bad units? What else can I try? I appreciate any and all suggestions.

But you know the trouble shooting isn’t going to work this is a known bug issue and I have found posts almost 2 years old and the issue isn’t fixed the Covid vaccines were created quicker

I wanna know when it will be rectified or else I will start a class action against Google for selling products that do not work to their specifications.

When did I find out it was an issue? 4 hours after I bought it on Friday - do you know how upset I am that I bought a faulty device… push and see

Kelsey

I’m having this issue now. Did you ever go ahead with the class action against google?

Can I get in on this class action? I've had this problem for years. I'm over it.

Here I am, mid 2022 having the same issue, found this thread while looking for a solution.  Might just change it to an Echo.

they moved the old topic to here, and looks like nobody has the issue1!!!   https://support.google.com/googlenest/thread/23575312/google-nest-mini-s-are-disconnecting-from-netw...

Two years on it! Terrible from google.

I have the same issus .... but once a week i must reboot the Google nest router.

And nobody is having an issue - are you mad…

every person that bought one has the issue.. one Google expert says they were glad a reboot worked to fix the problem - until it happens again in 3 hours time

More than one year with no problems. So, problem solved.

A new one also solved my problem for about a year, BUT the disconnect from the Wi-Fi is back even though I changed not a thing. Yet four other units have been working fine for many years. Go figure.

Mine is the same, not new. Sol Ed and fine now

Having the same issue as well and thus an unusable product. But what amazes me the most now, with the issue still nit fixed, is why there hasn't been any class action lawsuit yet?

I think they will recall it from now.

Recall it from now… after almost 2 years

and to what end?

so we all go and buy the larger speaker at double the price.?!!

Oh my dear friend hold on to your hat as Bette Davis would say it’s going to be a bumpy night…

I hope Google will give me a solution. I am also suffering for two years now.

I’m also having the same problems

2 google minis

factory resetting and power cycles have no lasting effect!

any  explanation why this has been allowed to fester for so long???

Same problem here

I’m facing the same problem! I have two minis but only one keeps disconnecting from wifi every 2 days. The only solution is to hard reset it and setup everything again, but it is so frustrating! Please Google, we’re looking forward for a fix of this 3 years old problem.

RobNO

Exactly the same issue. Would it be possible that it is the router blocking a port after some time?

Please Google give us a fix. Unplugging the Nest daily is not a fix.

So a semi-effective fix for me has been setting all my Google Nest Minis (a third one came even as I was trying to fix the other two, and it also had the same problem) to the 2.4 ghz band of the wifi instead of the 5 ghz; they disconnect much less frequently.

However this seems suboptimal because (1) it doesn't let me take advantage of the combined 2.4 and 5 ghz band on my router and (2) they still occasionally disconnect (and when it happens, it seems to happen to all 3 within a short period of time).

Has anyone else had any better luck?

I have the same problem, it will hold connection for a day at most then it’s done! I’ve moved it, reset it done everything under the sun but this thing is crap! It doesn’t work at all!

Yup ... just contact the support desk ... obviously test it like feet away from your router to make sure it is not a week signal ... better if you have other Googles or nests working ok already in the same position

I recently added nest wifi to the house and I am having constant wifi disconnection from nest mini and Google home mini and they are close to a nest wifi access point. I think there must be an issue with the nest wifi as this is the only thing that has changed recently.

CR

I have been having issues (for well over a year) where my Nest Mini disconnects from my WiFi on a daily basis. I have a few other Google Minis and a Google Home Max which don't have any issues, and I have a solid router set-up, so the actual WiFi network is not the issue.

I have been following and participating in this thread (Google Nest Mini 2 is loosing WiFi connection. - Google Nest Community) where we have been complaining about this issue for years with no help from Google. I'm hoping this new post will garner the attention of someone in support who can escalate a fix, since this is clearly a product malfunction.

Mbernier

Been having these issues past couple months. Honestly at this point I think I might ditch the Google ecosystem and head over to Amazon and Apple. It's getting ridiculous I've resorted to just not using Google anymore because I can't constantly keep setting it up every day

I've had the same problem.  Nest Mini 2nd gen works great then at least once a week sometimes more it disconnects.  Then it's not found or can't communicate with mini and I do factory reset reinstall Home and on and on ad nauseum

Very disappointing and frustrating

Device is slow or non responsive and frequently disconnects from WiFi. Half the time you ask for any Google assistance, it has a problem or says there is a glitch, try again.

I have done a full reset and initialization several times.
Latest software and firmware is installed 39.13.10.378463310 / 1.54.258916
I have changed my WiFi from band steered to fixed 2.4 and 5 GHz.
I have reset my WiFi network several times.
I have moved device positions to improve signals.

Beginning to think there is a fault with the unit or an issue with last firmware. Any ideas?

Next step i think is maybe returning it to the shop as it is beyond frustrating having a non functional 'smart' device.

Thanks,
Euan

Same problem for me.

It's a known issue, why is it not being addressed?

Because big G already got your money. That's all they needed.
