Google Nest Mini not responding

Elke
Community Member

Hi team. My Google Nest Mini is not working since this morning. I always start with "Hey Google, good morning" a d the routine starts but today is not responding. The lights come on when I say "Hey Google" but nothing else happens. I unplugged it, reboot it and restart it, (also my phone) and nothing seems to work. Help please!

I have the same issue with Home Mini since this morning. All of a sudden it stopped responding to Hey Google and few restarts later it's still the same.  Also I can't cast media to it any more as it's not showing as available.

The routines seems to be working though.

Mine got back to normal this evening. I didn't do anything apart from talking to it and responded. I believe it could've been some sort of issue with Google? Hope yours get back to normal soon.

Hello everyone,

Thanks for sharing your feedback here and giving us details about the issue. I know this must be a bit frustrating to deal with, as it's important to have a working device. A few questions: what country are you located in? Was the device in use before the issue occurred? If yes, what was the device used for? (For instance, broadcast media, play music, etc.) How many speakers do you have?

To eliminate further issues, please try setting up your device using a mobile hotspot. Please note that you will need two mobile devices for this setup (one will serve as a router and the other to be used to set up your speaker).

Let us know how it goes.

Cheers,

Muddi

Thx for trying to help us. I used 2 phones. One connected to 4G and with hotspot active. The other one, connected with the hotspot and trying to find my google mini speaker. It didn’t work for me. Speaker is not found. Please help

Hi Muddi,

my google nest mini's are used both for turning lights on/off and playing music once in a while. I am located in Belgium

I tried setting up using a mobile hotspot, but my google mini refuses to connect and warn that my signal is too weak (my wifi signals are much stronger, with repeaters throughout the house) I tested this with the google mini the closest to the router  4-5m without walls in between)
I have 3 google nest mini in total, all bought on the same date in november 2022. All 3 stopped working at the exact same time.

Muddi,

Here is the information you asked for,

A few questions:

What country are you located in?

United States of America.  (FL)

Was the device in use before the issue occurred?

Yes, for several years.

If yes, what was the device used for? (For instance, broadcast media, play music, etc.) How many speakers do you have?

Playing music, weather report, smart home voice control

To eliminate further issues, please try setting up your device using a mobile hotspot.

No success trying to set up device using a mobile hotspot. The Google Home App does not find my device because it is not functioning correctly.

 I have tried;

-   5 factory resets ( 11 restarts with 10 seconds OFF and then waiting for all 4 LED lights to turn on.)

 -  6 factory resets by pressing the reset button on the bottom of the device.

 -  2 attempts at connecting to a mobile hotspot.

What is most frustrating is that I have told the google people 4 times that I have done all these things they recommend, then you come back suggesting the same thing(s). It appears you have not bothered to read my 4 previous back and forth communications with your company (Google) regarding this problem. Maybe it would be wise to read all the communications, prior to attempting to troubleshoot a customer's problems. I see where there are 26  postings in the Google online community with exactly the same problem and it appears the problems all happened on the same day.

Let's solve this issue and move on.

THank you

Mike B.

 UK user:

Tried the laborious reset option several times-no joy and uninstalled the home app.

Tried the 2 x phones option and reset-no joy

Have removed all instances of the nest from Home app and reset "mini" and tried all of the above again.

Sometimes I can get as far as getting to wifi connection but then get "there is a problem.........." of various types:

"connecting to wifi"etc etc

I do get the 4 coloured lights when doing the reset 10 times etc but then they just stay a steady white.

So after all of the above I am still unable to reset/set up and get it working.

I use to control my lights/TV/AV/Freeview/Central Heating and the usual reminders/weather etc.

This is far to much of a coincidence for all of us reporting this problem, roughly over the same time period, so the servicability does not lie with we the users, but with Google. Can you please assist and not repeat the options on how to try and rectify it, as we have all done this with no luck

The device was working up until the Wednesday night. And just stopped all of a sudden with the 4 solid lights.
already tried the unplug trick(original post I did..), factory reset only gives the first green light and doesn’t move. It’s saying device is offline so it’s clearly no longer detectable for even any new firmware to push out at this point. So the mobile hotspot won’t work as it just can’t connect.

I use the mini for : broadcast, music playing, control smart devices on/off, check weather via voice assistant.

Has there been any more information regarding this as I am still having the same problem and  Google support seem to have gone very quiet. This is getting a tad silly.

Same issue as well. And I think I saw 2 more posts, all started yesterday and today. The unplug 10 times trick /reset doesn’t work. Seems like possibly some firmware pushed out. I hope this doesn’t brick the mini

Mine is working now and it seems that Google pushed new firmware - now is 384934 (cast fw - 2.58.384934).

This firmware isn't even listed on the official Google firmware page!!

I have 3 google nest minis, with almost sequential serial numbers, 2 were updated to this firmware, 1 remains with the previous firmware¡¡

Maybe because 2 devices were in a stereo pair??

Any way I can force an update?

All devices are in the preview program and have auto updates on...

I already did a hard reset and reconfigured to no avail...

Looks like Google is asking folks to directly contact them over support to get a case number open. Then you will need to provide video evidence, serial number of the device and they will issue you some sort of compensation for the bricked device. My partner wrote in, so I’m not double writing into support, we got offered a replacement (do need to mail the defective one back). But key is, you need a support case opened with them to follow through.

I responded this to Google Offer sent by support (no answer from them!!!)

"Does this means that the constant POPPING noise is a HARDWARE problem???

Do you have a NEW hardware revision that solves this problem???
I have 3 GOOGLE NEST MINI with the same problem (all of them, really)
Please confirm that GOOGLE has diagnosed the problem and that you can assure me that you have a NEW hardware revision that solves this. If that's true, please inform how can i tell the difference between the problematic devices and the "new" revision ones! (can i do that by serial number / manufacture date?)
Thanks."

What's the point in replacing the hardware if NOTHING CHANGES?!?!

Same problem here. Tried a factory reset, removed from Home, plugging in/out several times no luck.

I contacted Google and they were not aware this is a problem for lots of users. They haven't replied anything besides trying to reset.
I told them it is hard to raise an issue for google nest mini if it is not in the dropdown list of products to complain about... lets see what happens

I linked them this thread, it opened their eyes

I am having the very same problem, 4 LED light but nothing else, tried several different reboot/ resets with no luck. Would appreciate some assistance. Thanks

google told me to do factory reset, but it didn't help

lets see what they come up with now

As I said my issues are gone now but maybe delivery of the new firmware is staged so it will take some time to reach every device. I need to mention that my device is with enabled Preview program.

I enabled the preview program on one of my Google Nest Mini's
I can see firmware version 2.58.384934

But it still has the same problems 😞

Same issue here. Google Home Mini (with reset soft button on it's back) as working til last friday (dec 8th), but sunddenly stuck with 4 lights all-time on. Formware 2.57.375114

hmm... do you guys have the 4 leds on all the time?
Then I have a different problem: my 4 leds turn on whenever I say the hot word, but my commands are not processed. Google nest mini responds with "something went wrong, try again in a few seconds" (free translation 🙂 ) after about 30 seconds
then goes back to listening mode with the leds turned off

Only have the 4 Lights on, no response or acknowledgment at all.

Already tried the "10 times unplug, wait 10 sec, plug and wait for the lights". Nothing happened.
Also tried to push the back reset button: one LED turn on in green and now I do have 2 lights all time on.

Is there a fix?

Google informed me that they are aware of the problem and have assigned a team to the issue. There may be a fix in the  works. Stay tuned, if I get more information I will pass it on.

Thanks for the update, I was beginning to think they had forgotten about us.

I think they are aware. There’s now even an article on this issue posted.
