Hi Prajith,

You can either use a fully formed command that includes what device you would like playback on or set a default for media playback within the Google Home app.

Default audio/video playback:

Hi folks,

@Cathal_S, thanks for the help.

@Prajith, thanks for posting. I hope you've got the answer you're looking for. If you're still in need of any assistance, feel free to let us know. You can also use this command below to play a media on your TV. Say "Hey Google, play <media> on <TV name>."

Thanks,

Juni

Hey guys...with voice command it opens the respective apps such as Netflix or Disney but does not play the show..even when I give a command like "play stranger things on netflix on tv"...when I give this command it says "I also need to know which device"..I made the tv the default media as suggested by Cathal)..but if I just say open netflix..it carries out this command...the problem is with playing a desired video or series on command

Hi Prajith,

Thanks for sharing the steps you've tried. Can you check if this also happens when you try to play a video from YouTube?

Best,

Princess

I am experiencing the same issue, with any permutation of the command:

Hey Google…

…play Stranger Things on Netflix on the TV (doesn’t work)

…play Casey Neistat on YouTube on the TV (doesn’t work)

..open Netflix on the TV (works)

..open YouTube on the TV (works)

..turn on/off the TV (works)

Hey damndoodle,

To confirm, does it happen to all movies or videos from Netflix and YouTube? Also, what are the troubleshooting steps that you've done on your devices?

Cheers,

Muddi

Yes, it happens with all media/shows for any application.
I've tried reconnecting accounts and I've tried renaming devices. Neither worked.

Hi damndoodle,

Thanks for trying the steps. Could you please provide the cast firmware version of your device?

To check which firmware version you're on, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. Touch and hold your device's tile.
  3. Tap Settings and then Device information.
  4. Under "Technical information," check for Cast firmware: "X.XXX.XXXXX." If the device is on Fuchsia, check for System firmware version: "X.XXXXXXXX.X.XXXXXXX"

Hey team,

thanks for the ping — unfortunately, the firmware information is not available for my device since I am using a SONOS Arc. This is the main device I am concerned about.

However, there is a Google home pod that has the following info:

System firmware version: 324896

Cast firmware: 1.56.324896

This little pod does not understand the command and cannot find devices that are available either. Thanks for taking another look!

Hey damndoodle,

Thanks for that information. Please note that we have very limited support on third party speakers with built-in Google Assistant like Sonos Arc. You might need to reach out to them for better assistance.

For the Google Home pod, please reboot it by disconnecting it from the power source and leave it unplugged for 1 minute. Once done, plug them back one at a time with intervals. If it's still the same, proceed with resetting your device to refresh all the settings.

Keep us posted.

Cheers,

Muddi

Thanks for the suggestion but I’ve tried the steps above by unplugging/resetting and there is no improvement—this is impacting more than just third  party Google devices. Specifically, my Google home pod does not understand this command. I recommend trying those 3-step-commands yourself on your own Google devices, @Muddi @Princesss @Juni @Cathal_S
