I'm not sure what happened a few months ago but I have a number of Google smart speakers that use to work great and now they're useless. I'm guessing a firmware update is the issue but who knows.
When they were working correctly the nearest speaker would answer quickly to your request. Now 2-3 devices answer at different times and you're lucky if any of them answer correctly.
I don't think it's a conspiracy theory to say some companies have been known to kill devices on purpose with a firmware update. I'm not sure that's what is going on here but it has the feel of that.
I did call support who only had me adjust sensitivity which never helped and was never an issue before so I'm not sure why it would be now.

I have the same problem with my Nest Mini Gen2's, which started acting up a week or two ago, after the firmware was updated to v1.54.277099. Unfortunately, Google support is useless as usual, and refuses to even provide a historical list of firmware versions and the dates they were published, let alone allow for rolling back to a previous version. Thank god I only bought a couple of speakers and didn't pick them for a home security/automation provider
