How to prevent Chromecast taking over play control when I play Tidal to my Google Nest Speaker

I have googled all over for this and found no mention of it anywhere, so hope someone can help.

I often play Tidal from my laptop (happens on Windows 11 as well as MacOS), after a few songs have played, the speaker continues playing but suddenly I see Tidal player on my laptop has stopped, with the notification stating that Todal has stopped playing because I am playing it on Chromecast.

I don't want Chromecast system to take over control of Tidal playback, but to leave it playing through the speaker under the control of the Tidal app on my laptop.

How do I prevent this "change of controller" from happening?

Hi jesterpaul,

Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community.

I know how it feels when something isn’t working as it should, so let’s get this resolved. A few things: which Nest speaker? Have you tried using another music service to further isolate the issue? What steps have you tried so far?

You can do a sequential reboot. First, unplug your Nest speaker and Laptop for 30 seconds, then do the same thing on your Wi-Fi router to refresh both devices and your Wi-Fi signal.

Keep me posted.

Thanks,

Juni

Sadly, none of your suggestions make any difference.

Hey there,

May I know what Nest speaker is making itself the default device for Tidal playback? If there is a default speaker for the playback, then follow the steps below to reset it:

  1. In the Google Home app home screen, tap the device’s tile they’d like to reset.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Select Audio.
  4. Tap Default music speaker or Default TV > select Reset.

Also, check out this guide for more info.

Hope this helps.

Best,

Dan

That gets me half way.  Screenshot

AAs you see there is no option to choose playing from my phone or laptop as the default playback control device. That is what I want. I don't want ANY other device controlling playback. I want the best purely to act as the remote speaker but have no other control

Hi jesterpaul,

I appreciate you doing the provided steps. To further isolate this issue, could you please try other music platforms. Give a direct voice command to your Nest Audio and see if the behavior is the same. Also, try using your phone or other devices with other platforms like YouTube to cast to your Nest Audio.

Looking forward for your response.

Best,

Dan
