Nest Hub - No Longer Showing photos

I've had many Nest Hubs since the start.  A few weeks ago all 7 of my Nest Hub 2nd gen devices have stopped showing photos and instead show the dashboard. No settings have changed, Google Photos "Recent Highlights" is still selected for all my Home devises.

Secondly At night the Homes no longer switch to night mode, but instead stay lit and also show the dashboard.  I have to say google turn off the screen so I can get some sleep.

Is this a software change by Google to try to save money by not showing photos and not switching to night mode?

How do I get my old functionally back, because I use this as picture frames.  And they currently don't work.

@sambeckett

Perhaps it's a bug affecting "Google Photos" / "Recent Highlights".

We use "Art Gallery" for our Photo Frame and are not having issues. We are also not having problems with night mode.

nope, not the issue.  Same problem with anything I select to display 'Photo Frame.'

Hello folks,

Thanks for sharing details about the issue here. I appreciate MplsCustomer's help here. We rolled out a firmware update recently that will fix the issue of displaying photos on the Google Nest displays. Make sure that your device is getting enough signal from your network to receive the update. Visit this link to see the latest firmware version.

Yes, my problem still exist and no one has helped.  Do I need to restate the original problem?

If the problem stops being a problem I will come back and let everyone know, but otherwise you can assume it did not fix itself.

I'm guessing this is a technical feature change to save Google money on bandwidth.  If you stop streaming photos, that is big savings.  But if this is the case, it makes me not want to use Google Photos and I will stop paying for storage.

Hey sambeckett,

Thanks for coming back to us. Could you check if your device received the recent update? It should be at version 11.20230306.3.112015.

Also, please try these steps below:

  1. Open the device Settings > Photo Frame.
  2. Under Slideshow speed, select a longer duration for how often Ambient images change.

Let me know how it goes.
